I have a long haired cat that I hate putting flea "Advantix" on because it makes his hair gross looking (and smells).
Is there any alternative flea control ideas other than a collar?

thanks.

I use Brewers Yeast and Garlic tablets and it seems to be doing the trick. I also use Natures Guardian by Sergeants its a natural flea and tick squeeze on for cats. It has peppermint, cinnamon, lemon grass, clove oil and thyme,it works great and smells really good.It seemed safer than others

First of all-make sure it is plain Advantage, not Advantix you are putting on your cat. An alternative would be Frontline. It is applied the same as Advantage, but I have had clients say it does smell less and absorb better. Revolution is another option-but it is a prescription product. I use Frontline on my cats. Make sure these products are getting on the skin-not on top of the hair. The flea control you get from a veterinarian is a lot safer for your cat than the older over-the counter products. One thing to try would be to put the product on before you go to bed, then the next day, any of the gel stuck on the haorcoat can just be brushed out. Beware of using garlic in cats. Garlic is related to onion and can cause certain anemias in cats.

You can try an all natural flea remedy. I have used this and it works faster than frontline. For some reason frontline would not work on my cat or my dogs and the situation was getting pretty bad considering I had 2 cats and 2 dogs lol. This is a powder and you just sprinkle it on your cat and the best part is that it's natural so it's safe to use on your carpet and couches, etc. It works in about 2 weeks!

Cats groom themselves, they eat fleas and are more subject to tapeworms, which fleas carry. Because cats hate water and are not fond of hissing sounds, you can guess that cats don't like dips or sprays.

Home remdy for cat fleas are handy at this situation. Add garlic and brewer's yeast to your cat's daily diet. Even try rubbing the yeast into your pet's fur. Both ingredients are said to make a flea's taste buds curl in disgust. There's no scientific proof, but some pet owners swear by it.

Putting cedar chips along your fence line will keep the fleas from other people's yards out of your yard, as cedar repels fleas.

My wife and I had a Persian cat that seemed to attract fleas while our dogs stayed flea-free. What we did was was our cat with Dawn dish soap. Believe it or not, it will kill the fleas.

The only other thing I can think of is shaving your cat or cutting your cat's hair until you can control the flea problem. The hair will always grow back.

I have dogs and cats and I have in the past used garlic in their food and in the summer months I have added yeast. Fleas do not like garlic or yeast flavor bites.
The draw back is it does not stop the fleas from trying, so the fleas were still around the house etc.
Garlic can, but not always, leave your pet with bad breath so Greenies may be necessary.

Get Revolution. You DO NOT need a prescription and can order it online. I order it at www.petshed.com. This is the best thing that works. Don't even bother with the flea collars, they are useless. You have to spend the money in order to prevent a flea infestation.

I believe there is a flea control medication out there that is a pill that you give them once a month. It's called revolution, but I think it is only available at the vet's office. You don't need an appointment I don't think, but that's the only place that you can buy it. Beats having a grimy cat with fleas. :) Good luck!

Try feeding a little bit of garlic in the diet.
