I've heard of Christians aksing others to pray for them or with them and I've seen tv shows where people in church all pray for the same thing at the same time. I am wondering why there is a need for this bulk prayer? Does this increase the chances of the prayer being answered? Is God more likely to hear a prayer when it is made by many people instead of just one?

Yes, I am an atheist. No, I'm not looking to insult or poke fun at Christians.

Jesus said that where two or more are gathered in his name, he is in the midst. We pray together out of fellowship with one another and in fellowship with our Lord. It is a proven fact that group prayer is stronger than individual prayer. The more difficult the circumstances, the great the need of more people. This does not mean that one person cannot achieve great things through prayer, for the bible says that the fervent prayers of a righteous man availeth much. Communal pray is traditional and is a mark of Christian worship. We draw many of our traditions from Judaism, and the Jews, both ancient and modern pray communally. While we draw no traditions from the Muslims, the Muslims do pray communally. Buddhist and Hindus also pray communally, so there is much evidence worldwide for the precedence of communal prayer. Communal means of the community and all religious and spiritual organizations are communities.

The more people Pray the more powerful the Prayer is for someone. I have two people at my Church right now are walking testimonies of prayers. One is a girl that had a baby and had to stay in the hospital for 88 days for complications and she has a healthy baby now. Plus, My Preacher had brain surgury to take out a tumor a few weeks ago at age 75 or so. He was able to come to church sunday morning and do part of the service. but wasn't able to preach yet.

I like your honesty. I can appreciate that. Christians pray in groups because there's a verse in the Bible that talks about 2 or more gathering together in prayer and how in a sense it strengthens the prayer. God hears every prayer but there are strength in numbers. Also we pray in groups because we care about each other and in praying for one another it brings a measure of support.

I am a Christian and the only church I attend is in my own home, so I cannot profess to be completely knowledgeable about this but....I believe there is scriptural reference to whatever two or more people request or bind together on earth it shall be bound in heaven. I think that means that for more people to send the same prayer is supposed to add strength to the prayer itself. Hope this helps.

Even the true sincere Christian is sill just an earthen vessel. We come together in agreement that our prayers are not amiss, and they are the will of our Lord.Christians are often referred to as sheep.A sheep's only protection is within the flock. When the enemy comes the lamb are surrounded by the sheep, all facing toward the center with their backs to the enemy, while calling out to the Shepard. When the Shepard hears the call of the sheep He comes in haste to minister to the need.In Jesus Name, amen !

Most folks got the "where two or more are gathered" bit, but the bible also says where two or more of you can agree... So if a whole LOT of us are agreeing, then God just might take action. That is, only if it's for our own good.

No matter how many people I can get to agree with me that my winning the lotto won't change me, God knows better.

In the scriptures...

If one person prays, 1000 angels take flight...when two pray together, 10,000 take flight...imagine when you 100 or more praying the same thing...

There is not only power in prayer...there's power in the number that pray the same or are in agreement...

Thank you for the respect,It is in the bible if 3 or more join in prayer.......It is not that HE will not hear your own prayer,it is more like the power of prayer. Am I explaining it clear ?

Strength in numbers I guess. Makes no sense really though - God is supposed to hear everyone's prayers and is supposed to answer them all.....why the need for group prayer? Unless, of course, it is nothing more than a placebo - in which case it might actually work better in a group setting.....

Well, the bible says that where two or more are gathered god is. So, since they take most of that book literally, they gather to pray or worship.
