A lorikeet is an endangered bird. They are brightly colored aboreal parots about the size of cockatiels but look more like parakeets. They are closer related to cockatoos however. They are very intelligent birds, and very affectionate, like love birds.

Lories and Lorikeets are types of parrots. They have brush-tipped tongues and feed on nectar. They cannot eat seeds. They are extremely active and intelligent birds. The smallest ones are about the size of a lovebird (with a longer tail), the biggest ones are longer and fuller-bodied than a cockatiel.
Lories have short, broad tails and sturdier bodies. Lorikeets have slender bodies and long tails. Other than that, they are the same and the designation "lory" is used for both.
I currently have 4 lories. Every lory I have owned could talk and had some degree of tameness. But they aren't birds that will sit on your shoulder or on an open perch.
Because of their diet, messiness, loudness and other special needs, anyone considering buying a lory should do research on their care. I have had one of my lories for 18 years and I love him dearly but they are A LOT of work.

Do a google or yahoo search for lorikeets. The search gives you many results. Just read until you found all the answers you are looking for. :)

Basically, they are small birds from Australia, brightly colored, that eat a very special nectar diet. They can be purchased from breeders or occasionally you can find a few for adoption at parrot rescues.

Good luck!

They are very similar. They are brightly colored birds, and somewhat large (I think bigger than a pidgeon)
