if the motor itself looks the same as far as pully set up and intake and exhaust look similar they should work.your best bet would be to use only the block and heads from the 89 motor and use your intake and other accessories from your old motor that way you dont have to worry about if the computer will work

emission rules say you need the same yr or newer an all electronics and computers need to be matched to donor engine

No in 95 they went to obd2 and the computer controls everything

Swap with same year or newer.and save yourself or your mech a lot of time and frustration , What you would save by using 89 model engine money wise you would lose a bunch time wise.and time is money.
