I feel for you Marylin. My son is 4.5 and we have been going through the same thing for a little over a year. His dad and I are both really tall, and assume he will be as well. We go through the growing pain thing every week. He just cries and screams grabbing his little legs complaining that it hurts so bad. And honestly there is not much you can do. His doctor told me it probably feels a lot like getting "charley horses"... I give him a warm bath every night and massage his legs with lotion while we read or watch cartoons. And the nights that are so bad that he wakes up crying over the pain I just sit on his bed and massage his legs until he goes back to sleep. And on an occasion that it is needed, I do give him Tylenol or something.
So it definitely is normal; unfortunately there is no way to prevent it for the most part. But the good news is that it is NOT constant, the pains will come and go.
Good luck to you and your little guy!

Yes it is very normal for kids to get growing pains. My daughter is now 11 years old and she still gets growing pains. You are doing the right thing the massages do help and warm bath soaks help too if the pain gets to bad try Tylenol. But if the pain gets to the point were its so pain full to your child that he does not run and play the way he use i would call your pediatrician and discuss maybe getting x-rays or catscan just to make sure there is nothing more serious going on.

I think that it is normal. My four year old son is having the same problem, except that massaging them doesn't seem to help, so I give him some tylenol so that he can get back to sleep. It has only happened a couple of times, a week apart. If it happens more often, then I will take him to the doc to make sure nothing else is up with him. Hope this helps.

YES, My son has been going through the same thing, and I think it started around when he was four, he's eight now, and a few times a year he will call out for me and my husband in the middle of the night because his legs hurt. Sometimes anything we do to try to ease the pain doesn't work, but more time than not, my husband can get it to where he will feel better enough to go back to sleep, by extending his leg and gently push his foot back to stretch out his leg.

Yes. My pediatrician calls it "overuse" syndrome. They have young growing bones that just ache after running and playing all day. It runs in my family. Ibuprofen, hot bath and massage usually does the trick.

yes it is normal. my son used to get cramps bad in his legs.i would massage his legs and put him in warm bath water to soak that seemed to help.if they keep bothering him i would have a doctor to look at them. the doctor told me that it was from them being on them a lot and his muscles not being use to the weight. good luck!

It's normal. My younger brother and I would get them when we were younger. I remember it happening when we didn't drink enough milk. My mom tried to make sure we had a couple of glasses of milk throughout the day.
