maintaining healthy dietary habits is part of our word of wisdom in church. it basically follows the nutrition experts food pyramid and encourages you not to contaminate your body with any sort of addictive substance, like alcohol, caffeine, drugs etc. for two reasons, first, well why would you want to be addictive to something.... and second, because science has proven time and again that the less addictive materials you put in your body, the healthier you are, and less at-risk you are in moments when it counts. often enough for certain surgeries people have been asked if they smoke, take drugs, drink coffee or alcohol etc etc and if the answer is yes, then the surgery cannot be performed or certain life-necessary medication cannot be prescribed!! .... conclusion, you are better off not using any of that and when it comes down to it you are habit free, healthier, richer (cause you don't spend money on those things) and not at-risk when it counts in medical situations!!!

Absolutely - as a Christian, my body is considered a temple
1 Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
I beleive other religions have similar doctrines towards their health.
Good health is just good common sense.

The Buddha taught that a healthy body was a necessity for a healthy soul. He rejected the path of asceticism and complete self denial and advocated maintaining good physical health and eating a healthy diet.

I am a Pantheist and taking care of my body is important for me because to me we are all natural beings and have only one life, on this earth. It is important to eat healthily and look after yourself to get the best out of life :) As for my mind... It's another 'one life' thing. With only one life to go through, I want to learn as much as possible and gain experiences.

Yes, of coarse Islam cares for the individual in the same way it cares for the group. taking care of how clean you body is, is part of the religion. Reading and knowing about the world is part of the religion. Being strong, healthy, and able to do your duty all part of the religion.
Islam is a blessing to man kind. we should be thankful for it all the time.
