Yes, I am -- for several different reasons.

As for the time of year -- here we just went off daylight savings time.. which means that just as the days are getting shorter .. suddenly now it grows dark before 6PM... where less than a month ago it was light until after 8PM...

Situation -- don't want to go into personal details, but several recent events in my life are really pulling me down.. I'll just say that these events and situations involve health and relationship issues..

...noting an ongoing depression, my doctor had me try antidepressant meds -- which I couldn't stand.. the side effects made me feel worse...

... I am recovering from a severe illness which has kept me from work and most normal physical activities for months now .. this alone is enough to make me feel depressed.. worse .. the illness robs me of strength and makes me feel bad...

... my S.O. is on the other side of the world.. and so is the best medicine I could ever have -- her love, her company, her touch .. I know you'll understand when I say that ... being apart from the one you love is hard under the best of circumstances ..

... so, what can I tell you that will help you? I honestly don't know... I am trying to deal with the same problem..

I can tell you you are not alone... you are not crazy .. these things you feel you feel for a reason, or rather reasons .. and very often, either in the first place or as a result, chemical imbalances can and often are inextricably linked with depression.. so hopefully your meds will work for you ..

I know that if you can get up and get out -- it makes a world of difference.. sometimes for me even just opening the windows
and curtains to let in the light, or just going out to run some errands, or even a short walk .. basically anything that gets you out of that damned deep rut that grips you .. and it grips us so hard...

i wish you well, and all the best... and though it may sound hollow, hang on and keep slogging through that mud ... that damn pernicious sleep mud ...

I have the same problem as you. Then I started taking vitamin D and things started to get better. You should talk to your pharm. to know how much to take because you dont want to take too much.

The reason being is about 3 or 4 weeks ago the earth has shfted just far enough that we are no longer able to get the benifits of vitiamin d from the sun. Without it you can get the winter blues and feel down and also like you have no energy.

Well anyways it worked for me, so I guess if you feel like giving it a shot it could never hurt :)

Yes, I often feel down at this time of year! I always have done and I think a lot of it is to do with the fact that it's so dark for so much of the time! I was in a car crash last year too and since then have been feeling very down a lot more often and have lost a lot of my self confidence. It's also been a sad year because my friend's Dad died recently and had been in and out of hospital prior to this. I take the anti-depressant Citalopram, prescribed by my GP which does help. I know what it's like though to feel that it's pointless getting up in the morning and having problems having happy thoughts! I find making plans to meet friends for lunch and having as much human contact as possible helps keep me afloat! Oh, and exercise is a brilliant way to beat the blues as it boosts the release of seretonin and endorphins and also makes me feel better about myself physically. Also, have you considered getting one of those SAD lamps if it tends to be this time of year that affects you? I've heard they really really help!

It sounds like SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). Some people get it around this time of year because we are exposed to less sunlight and it definitely affects your mood. There's an alarm clock that you can buy, which imitates the sun coming up. You set it for the time you want and about half an hour before it starts to open up and emulates sunrise. By the time it has opened fully, you will be wide awake. Other than that, make sure you're eating healthily with lots of fruit and veg, getting some exercise and get outdoors as much as possible.

I suffered from really bad depression some time ago and it really made me aware of how bad it can be. Support by friends and family is very important but if I may, can I tell you what really worked for me? I found that exercise was great for boosting my morale, I understand that it is because of the chemicals produced when you exercise, which produce a positive effect. Good luck to you and I hope you soon feel better, ignore those who say "snap out of it" it's a chemical imbalance in your brain and that is why most doctors give out pills which can restore that balance but for me, the natural way produced the best results.

Well see SAD is a well known syndrom and as such is treated by docs by lightboxes...but i get SAD in the summer - i truly go into myself when the long days and bright nights are about.

People think im silly but i have noticed that i cry more in the summer, and as this summer has been marvellous for some it has been hellish for me.

SAD seasonal affected disorder (i think) but surely that goes for BOTH sides of the years? I love it when the nights get daker and i can walk for miles in the dark, i feel more at peace in the dark too.

Im not making it up honestly..but i know what you all go thru when its the winter...cos i go thru it in the summer.

There mrsb explain that in your new flying goggles in'all!

Firstly don't make yourself feel guilty about getting up late. You don't need to feel any worse than you already do.

Set yourself one task each day and make it something that you'll enjoy. Really make yourself do it. Tell family members what you are going to do so you'll be accountable! 'Cos energy breeds more energy.

Try to stay off the cakes and chocolates if you normally eat these 'cos they'll make you feel very sluggish.

Go out and meet someone for coffe and don't cancel at the last minute. I think when you've been out of the house for a while then it feels better when you come home.

I do know all this is a huge effort, but if you make the effort you will feel better for it.

Best wishes.

i have depression too. i know where mine stems from though, although i'm not sure u gave a reason as to why you're depressed. i had a still born son in may of this year and i'm super depressed. the doctor prescribed prozac but i haven't been taking it cause i don't want to get addicted, and when i stop, i don't want the depression to come back twofold. pluss we're ttc and i don't want to conceive on prozac as it may affect the baby.
anyway, yeah, i too go to bed super late and, if i let myself i could wake up at 11 or 12

but i get more depressed if i wake up that late, so i put my alarm clock for 9:30. that way i can sleep in (a little), but not oversleep till 11.

i get super depressed if I oversleep, so maybe put your alarm clock to earlier.

that's about all i can say. having a dead baby sucks.

Read my profile & 360, that'll cheer you up. I do take meds and alot of them. I think you need to find a new hobby, something you don't know how to do. You need to live not just survive. Terrible things just seem to be a part of my life for some reason. But through all the deaths and accidents & bi-polar, I just keep on trucking and you should to.
