My family is riddle with cancer! 2 of my cousins have had bowel cancer and as you see from my avatar I am working to survive the same.
Ask your GP to refer you to The Family Genetics Service in your area - associated with Macmillan I believe. My cousins and I were investigated through this service [from biopsies of bits removed from us all!] and the result - NOT hereditary!
So 2 cousins, 4 uncles, 1 aunt, had cancer - my mother and my son have both survived cancer - breast and testicular. It's a bit like Ernie the Premium Bond picker - RANDOM! However, there is a list somewhere of everyday items which can cause cancer of different kinds - which the EU were going to ban - but money speaks louder than cancer prevention.

Breast cancer has been proven to be partly hereditary. Early diagnosis is the key to beating it so you would be wise to talk to a doctor about screening.
Genetics play a part in almost all kinds of cancer but remember these facts:
1. There is no single cause of cancer.
2. Currently, it is impossible to predict with 100 % certainty who would get which cancer. Smoking causes lung cancer but that neither means that every smoker would get it nor that only

I'd like to say it's unlikely you'd get cancer but my dad and my grandfather has had cancer, my nan had breast cancer a few years ago and my aunty has now been diagnosed with breast cancer (all on the same side of the family) and I'm also concerned about it being hereditary. I'm going to speak with my gp asap and I recommend you do the same. I hope evreything is ok for you x

I really believe that some families are more predisposed to developing cancer; with other families it's heart disease, etc. My mother had cancer, as did 2 of her sisters, 2 brothers and a nephew. My father also had cancer, as did 2 of his brothers. When aware of a risk, though, it does make one more observant and more inclined to have all the tests available In addition, we should never ignore any changes that we note in the normal functions of our body. We should not, however, live in fear; just be more aware. It's also worth mentioning now that wonderful work is being done in the field of cancer research and there have been many breakthroughs in undersanding and treatment.

Some cancers, including breast cancer have familial links.
However, since you have no family history of two generations of the same cancer, it's unlikely.
No reason not to be checked though.

Some kinds of breast cancer are, some aren't. Usually if they have it before they hit the menopause then it is a hereditary type. If you are worried go to your doctor and you can get a test to work out the likelyhood of you getting it.

there is a chance that you can get concer because of family history. I wouldn't say that it is a big chance but it is there. YOu may want to talk with your doctor because since your mother had breast cancer you may want to start gettting examined at an earlier age. Don't worry about it just remember that there is a chance and watch yourself. Ex... stay in shape/healthy

No Cancer is not hereditary = but most doctors will keep a close eye on family members.
If you feel you should get checked then go see your doc. he will put your mind at rest once and for all.
