This came on my radio this morning. One of the dj's, a woman, was talking about how she might be sending her daughter to a Jewish Synoguage for preschool. The other dj (a non-practicing Jew) thought that this was the funniest thing in the world. The lady, however, got indignent when she realized that her daughter might learn a religion (she's non-religious).

Which got me thinking, how many could let their child go to a religious preschool, not of their beliefs? And if they could, would they pick one over the other?

Now, I'd pick the Hebrew preschool (as the dj kept calling it) over a Christian school not of my domination.

What would you pick? And you can't slither out of it by saying you'd stay home or have a babysitter. If you answer, would you send your kid to a religious daycare? If a religious daycare is all that's open, would you? would you prefer one religion over another? Again, no saying you'd stay home.

those religious preschools are WAY ahead of regular pre-schools..... the kids actually come out with good behavior and sometimes pick up a foreign language ....

hebrew preschool has kids learning hebrew before they start 1st grade...

if you are not against whatever their religion is....i would recommend sending the child there.

Here's a nice little story. I went to preschool at a Catholic school when I was a kid (I was Jewish at the time). The only reason my parents let me go was because they weren't going to be teaching religion. This was true; there was no religious class, but I do remember one incident clearly. It was getting to be near Christmas, and we were making decorations. We each got a circle of clay and could stamp it with a cookie cutter and paint it. The cookie cutter shapes were Santa, a Christmas tree, and a snowman. I wanted to make a Santa, but my teacher refused to let me. After a while, I accepted that I'd have to make a snowman. I'm not really sure what to make of it now. Were they afraid that my parents would think they were trying to convert me if I went home with a Santa? Or was it actually prejudice?

So that was something that came up at a preschool that didn't even teach religion. I'd be very hesitant to send my kids to a religious school of any type, especially considering how impressionable kids are at that age.

I am not really religious so I would send to public school or do home school. I know it's not what you want to hear but It's the truth. I was put into catholic school when I was 12 and it was the wrost expierence of my childhood. I hated it so much! I had to go to church every day, twice on Fridays. (That is the reason I am not so religious now.) I would never force my child to do anything they don't want to do. I think religion should be left for when a child is old enough to know what they are being brainfed.

But to make you happy....if I had to choose (If no public schools were available), because of my expierence, I guess I would choose a Jewish school...at least they will get a lot of days off.

I'm planning on sending my daughter to a religious preschool. Right now, we're considering a Baptist one, because we know people in it, and know their kids are learning. We're not Baptist, but I don't think the denomination should matter. I couldn't send my child to a Hebrew school, because although the faiths are founded on the same God, the Jews teach they are still awaiting the Messiah. I believe the Messiah has come, died and rose from the dead for my sins. I couldn't have her learning something that contradicts that. I might send her to a Catholic preschool, but that would still be hard if we weren't raising her Catholic. Just my opinion.

Well I think I could allow my daughter to go to a preschool that was not of our beliefs. Now if she learned something about that religion that would be fine with me. Never any harm in learning of others religions. But I can't understand someone getting mad that her daughter would learn about Judaism when she is going to send her daughter to a Hebrew school. I mean come on, if you send your kid to a school that is deemed a Hebrew school, isn't it just common-sense that the kid would learn about some of the Jewish religion.

Hell, I don't even have kids, but I'll play!

I would first and foremost NOT choose a religious daycare. If that were my only choice, I'd probably assume that not a whole lot of preaching was going on anyway, so the danger is small.

But I would talk to the proprieters to find out what role their religion plays. I'd try to find the one that plays the smallest role, such as they have crosses hanging everywhere but that's the extent of it.

Assuming I couldn't find one that is non-invasive, and my only choices are christian v. Jewish, I'd go christian.

Why? The devil you know.....is better than the one you don't. I could fight christianity. I suppose I could fight Judaism as well, but at least I'd avoid the potential dietary restrictions.

My daughter goes to a school adjacent to a Jewish Temple. My husband and I are not religious at all! I would not pick one religion over another (except if they had a pagan daycare--jk)
My daughter likes the school and apparently does Shabbat on Fridays(singing songs). As she gets older I will opt to send her to sunday school if my husband will agree. I would like her to be well rounded, learning & understanding about all religions...So she can make her own choice even if it that she does not want to be religious!

We choose the school because of its location, look and curriculum....Some of the schools we looked out were soo bad I would not board an animal there!

I am catholic but non practicing. My kids go to catholic school because its a small school and Everyone knows everyone. There is one class per grade and maybe 20 students. Its a little expensive but anytime my kids come across a problem they are more than willing to work with me where as public school, I feel that my kids will slip through the cracks. My older one needs to be hounded to do work and do good. I will continue to send them there until I am unable to afford it. I would like them to have some kind of religion in their lives. If they choose some other religion that would be fine with me. My father never took us to church or anything and now I dont care do go. I want my kids to have options.

If i had a child i would send them to a christian pre school but the Hebrews believed in God also and even in the old testament the birth of Christ was for told. i would rather my child be taught that there is a God then to be taught that there is no God the Hebrews, Jews and Christians all have the same Father God but not all have come yet to accept Jesus Christ our Savior but the Jews are Gods chosen people.

If I were that young again and could do a makeover of my mistakes of the past I would send my daughter to a Christian pre-school regardless of the sacrifices I would be required to make. there is a possibility that her life would have turned out different and for the better; but, I elected to hand this responsibility over to her mother and her mother flubbed it. I have no regrets because having regrets changes nothing.
