Here's what we did: We met in the Sanctuary in the morning, and divided the kids in groups by age. We all sang a song and listened to a story, then had a short speech about cleaning up messes, etc. and then the kids went to their classes. The older kids (k-6th grade) had lessons, a Bible memory verse, music class, art class, etc. While the little kids had one classroom where we did everything. We went outside for a game, and we took them to the fellowship hall for a snack. The kids loved it. I think that's what matters. It's good for kids to do anything they enjoy, that won't hurt them. We didn't tell the kids they would burn in hell forever. What's sick about it? The kids have fun.

Actually, you could report Yahoo to Yahoo for its category suggestion. Mmno on the vacation Bible school. Faith's an every day lived in thing and the parent's responsibility to model and teach. Bible camp/summer school might be overkill. The kids could be out in the yard playing in the sprinkler rather than signing Kumbaywhatever.

My Vacation Bible School was not like that at all. Lets see if I can remember.....we started out singing a song (it would be a Bible verse but made into a sing song)....then we would go into our classes and pretty much just play games. They were games about God and stories in the Bible. I don't remember ANYONE telling me I would burn in hell if I didn't come to Jesus. Though I don't regularly attend church now, when ever I was little I enjoyed Bible School and couldn't wait for it to come around.

I went as a child and I don't attend church, never have on any kind of regular basis. The one I attended was a great experience. I believe it can help children learn good ways to interact with others. And nobody ever told me I would burn in hell. Most of what they taught were lessons in getting along with others.

I am not sure just what VBS you attended, but telling the children the truth about the Bible is not a bad thing, they need to know what will happen to saints and sinners alike. I went to one when I was young and I learned a lot of different things about God, and Jesus. We had a lot of fun, so it was not all that bad.

If you do not agree then do not send your children. Each person as a right to their own choices. It is not like the are coming to your home taking your child and making them go. I do not agree with the financial empire that is organized religion, but petty verbal bashing is ignorant.

I think the vacation would be just fine, but leave out the bible school, our children get enough crap in school as it is.

I liked VBS. They were nice and we had fun. They told me Jesus loves the little children. This was Methodist VBS. Sweet people.

I agree.
however not all bible schools are like that.
If I were to make one of course I would have bible lessons done by age group.
Then we would have some awesome field trips.
Its good to be a christian, we arent as boring and off our rockers as life seems to make us out to be.
