I dont' see why not but I always keep mine in the pantry with the onions. They'd take up too much space in the fridge.

It is not necessary to put your potatoes in the refrigerator. Place them in a doubled brown paper bag, roll the top down and store them in a cool place, such as the bottom of your cabinet. The brown paper bag keeps out light, preventing them from rotting, and helps them to not sprout.

I've never tried, but I imagine potatoes would absorb a lot of fridge odors and eventually taste off. Keep them in a dark and well ventilated area.

No. They go bad faster. Put them in an open container, a basket or bin would work perfectly. Store in a cool, dark place like your pantry.
