Normally they dont. They just use it for identification purposes so that they know that they are renting the car to a licensed driver and to determine if you have any outstanding issues with that particular company. If you wrecked one of their cars and didnt get the extended coverage and you owe them for the damage but refused to pay, that is their way of remembering who you are.

Yes. If there is a bad driving record they will not rent to you. If credit is bad they will not rent to you. Credit cards are a must to rent.

Absolutely! And if much of anything comes back you don't rent!

I don't think they have (or they can) the police records. they enter your information in case there is an accident. Same with foreign licences. and they do not have any record of them.
