I think it depends on the thickness of your steak, but most grill masters will tell you only turn your steak once during cooking and to close the lid so as to keep the heat even. Someone told me once that they for medium rare they usually turned after 5 to 6 minutes and that after turning once they felt the outside of the steak with their turner if it is very soft it is rare and very hard is well. I tried this and found that I can now tell when the steak is done to my liking by feeling it. Order one in a good restaurant and feel how it feels before you cut into it. Then try to duplicate that at home. Also, don't mess with the steak too much. Just let it do it's thing while it is on the grill.

I'm very zen with my grilling, and I'm quite the grill master, kudos for me since I'm a gal and this is usually a guy thing(and since I'm using a charcoal grill not a gas one). Anyway I did some thick steaks awhile back. I did them for about 5-6 minutes on the first side then flipped them and shut the lid, for about 4 minutes more, then opened up the lid and had a look and a feel of the meat. It needed another minute so I left it on for that, took it off and let it rest. Very important with meat. Also another tip is to let the meat be a bit more room temp when you start cooking it, you don't want it straight out of the fridge. I like mine medium rare so you may want to leave yours on another minute or so to get medium well. Good luck and happy grilling.

I ususally shut the grill on med/low heat, but, check often by making a small cut in the steak to make sure it stays with a hint of pink. I do not like mine bloody either. Size of steak, how hot is the grill makes a difference. No sure time, takes practise and keep checking.

I would say probably 10 to 12 min on each side with the grill shut. Just guessing. I like mine rare so that's a hard one to figure out.

Cover shut. Put on med heat. (About 425 degrees) Cook for 4 minutes. Turning steak every minute. DONE.
DON'T FORGET TO SCORE YOUR STEAK ON BOTH SIDES B 4 COOKING THEM!
