We have decided to start a PTO at my daughter's school. It's a small school--less than 350 kids total. My husband started talking with other parents and called me saying...'guess who I nominated for president'! EEEEKKKK! I've never done this before...I'm starting on research, but I'd like 'real world' help, not text book help. Any advice given would be greatly appreciated!

recommend starting by asking yourself, "What are the biggest problems and/or concerns in our school as seen by the parents?"

you can use the passion from the parents to get further recruits (parents) to help you....assign each problem a chair person to find their own committee members.

by targeting what everyone sees as a problem, you will get more respect for your initiative, better buy-in and more participation.

congrats and good luck.
