why do alarm clocks have 9 minute snoozes? why couldn't they have an even 10 minutes?

You need to shop around more for alarm clocks. Mine has 10-minute snoozes, and it automatically adjusts for daylight savings.

Maybe 10 minutes would give you too much time to fall into a deeper sleep.
