Unfortuantly media player is quite tightly tied into Windows.

If upgrading / downgrading / uninstalling / reinstalling doesn't work then you only have one choice...

Reinstall the OS.

I had a very similar problem, and that was the only way to resolve the issue.

Alternativly you could switch to RealPlayer which will play all the same formats and more.

It could be that the movie you're fighting to watch has a glitch that's messing up Windows Media Player.

There are lots of other media players out there, you know.
VLC, RealPlayer, Quicktime, Itunes...

Put the extension and player in a google search. Something like ".avi player" and lots should come up.

Look up the name in Google Groups to see if it's spyware ridden, or quality.

Microsoft brand software isn't the only one out there...

I also highly recommend Firefox...

Free, fast, a small 5mb download, Firefox blocks pop-ups and sites from secretly installing programs on your computer. It will copy over your settings from other browsers (cookies, settings, bookmarks). Firefox is powerful too, it's more up-to-date than even IE7 according to the web standards (w3.org).

The main reason I like Firefox is because it's customizable.

Why is customizability important?

Imagine being able to do 2 small things and never seeing a banner ad, flash ad or an iframe ad again? (Remember, pop-ups are already gone)
Imagine being able to pause your computer's music player when the phone rings without having to switch to it?

Firefox puts the power back in your hands!

1. Check with different CD's.
2. Check with different player softwares like Power DVD player.
3. make sure that its not becaus of media or software.
4. Try changing your RAM for testing purpose.
5. try video card driver updating.
6, Make sure sound driver working fine
7. Try copying the media to computer and try play from PC. If it works may be your drive speed not enough for playing. Problem ith drive...........

You should get an error code that you can look at the list from this site. It should tell you what the problem was and how to fix it.
