This depends on the brand. The toddler sizes are much smaller in length. I have noticed that sometimes the small girls sizes are the same at the waist as the toddler, but are longer- like another poster said, for when they get taller and thin out a little. Again, this depends on the brand/store.

My daughter who is 3, wears anything from 5T, 4, 5 or 6 in girls for pants, and usually a 5 or 6 in girls for shirts. She is a little tall for her age, but yet the girls sizes are WAAAY too long for her legs! It's hard to buy clothes at this stage.

Well, first there are toddler sizes which go from 2T to 4T or 5T. Then little girls/boys that go from sizes 3 or 4 up to 6, 6X, or 7. And then regular girls/boys that go from size 7 to 16 or 18. So there is sometimes some overlapping. The main difference between say, a size 4T and a size 4 in little girls/boys is that the toddler size would have more room for a diaper.

In some clothes brands there is no difference between 24 months and 2T, but in others there are. I always think of the 24 months size as being 18-24 months, while 2T is for 2 year olds, although as I said in some brands there is no difference. There definitely is a difference in Carter's clothes and most of the higher end clothing brands though.

It seems to me that the toddler sizes are just a bit shorter in the arms and legs. My son is 4 and has to wear size 4 in pants and a size 4T in shirts. His legs are longer than his arms I guess :0)

Toddler sizes generally are made bigger in the waist and bottom area to accommodate a diaper and often have snaps in the crotch area and down the legs for easier diaper changing.

I always thought toddler sizes were proportioned more toward chubby little legs and tummy etc. versus youth sizes when kids grow and thin out more. kind of like petite women's clothes are proportioned toward the shorter woman

Toddler sizes have shorter legs/arms. The bottoms are also bigger for the diapers.

Toddler sizes are proportioned for toddler bodies and allow room for diapers/pullups in the hips/butt area.

Clothes fit so akward int his age group. Osh Kosh sell boys pants with adjustable waist sizes... which is awesome because my son is tall and thin.
