We just got a cat for my Grandmother and we need a name for it. He is black with white on all 4 paws and white on his nose. He is definitly part ragamuffin. We got him at the SPCA. Yesterday my grandfather was running on the treadmill and the cat was jogging beside him, so the cat likes to jog/run. My grandmother wants to name him "Spats" which are white things you put over your shoes, but I think that name is weird. What is your suggestion for a name?

WE HAVE THOUGHT OF SOCKS, BUTTONS, MITTENS, MOZART, LANCE, ZEKE, CHARLIE, ZACK, WHISKA, MAX, BOOTS, AND GARFIELD. BUT MY GRANDMOTEHR DOESN'T LIKE ANY OF THEM

He sounds a real character & an unsual name like Spatz sounds ideal for him. But I know you don't like it & are looking to tempt your Grandmother with something different so -

How about Bannister? after Roger Bannister who broke the four minute mile.

Other suggestions are:

Turbo - or perhaps he doesn't need to be turbo powered to keep up with Grandfather?

Perhaps you could call him The Coach? because maybe he's actually helping your Granddad keep fit? Or Trainer? - because that also fits & he could be wearing white trainers on his feet.

Or Circuit? Circuit training ... Sir Kit - ennoble him?

Getting off the fitness thing ....

Rudolph - okay I know his nose is white not red but it is quite a nice name, abbreviates to Rudy which also sounds good.

Sylvestor or Tom or Felix - though his markings & colour are not perfect matches for any of these cartoon cats.

Good luck finding a name that Gran likes too.

I like to pick names that people don't think of for a cat. I have had cats named Booger, Barker, Stitch, Dog, And right now I have a silver tiger cat named Spot. So what ever you think of be really creative

I think the name Mittens is a cute one.

I have a cat named Furball, but he only responds to Kitty.

Good Luck in your search for names.

Spats is differently cute or just plain Nosy!
call him something you're actually verbally comfortable with,
My two cats are names Shadow (13yrs old) and Beans(2yrs old)
The names they actually respond to are: BabyKitty and LittleOne
Make it Fun!

Why dont you call him something like Fred or George or William. I think giving pets names like ours is cute.

Spats is good. If she likes it, then that's what it should be.

But if not, 'Bustopher Jones' from the T.S. Eliot poems (Basis for the musical 'Cats') for a male.

My wife's cat is a female with that description. I call her 'Bustophette'.
