My daughters birthday falls the day before Thanksgiving. She is wanting to have a sleep over. I'm not sure if I should plan the party for that Saturday which would be the day after the big shopping day. Or wait and hold it the following friday? I'm worried that girls might not be able to show up on the weekend of her birthday. What are your thoughts?

I'd have it the following weekend. A lot of people have family obligations during Thanksgiving weekend and a lot of people also go out of town.

Try talking to some of the parents of your daughters friends and see if they'll be around that weekend of Thanksgiving or if it would be better the following weekend. Get a feel of how many people will be available for either date and then go with that. It's hard when the birthday falls on or near a holiday but the party will be just as much fun if you end up doing it the following Friday!

I'm having the same exact problem, only I have a son with a birthday the day before Thanksgiving. We don't have school on Wednesday so I am thinking about having the party on Tuesday. If I don't do it then I will probably have it the week before on the 17th since I know a lot of his friends will be out of town on Thanksgiving weekend. It might be a good idea to talk to a few of the mom's (especially of her best friends) and see what their plans are.

The Saturday after the big shopping day would be perfect. I have 2 girls 13 and 5. If a parent invited them to a sleepover I would take it cause I could go shopping for them and then wrap their presents. Also, maybe talk to the parents of the kids you plan to invite to see what weekend would be best for them.

Best bet is to talk with the parents of the other kids.

Probably the week following would be better as Thanksgiving is major travel weekend for folks with out-of-town relatives.

Talk to the parents of her best buddies and see what they are up to. Shopping may not be the only problem---many folks travel for Thanksgiving or have relatives come to stay with them.

The weekend before or the weekend after is your safest bet if you want to ensure a good turnout.

The Saturday after Thanksgiving would be nice because it will get their child out of the way for them to go shopping.

I don't think that a shopping day would have much to do with it but I would be concerned about how many of her friends might be traveling with family and won't be around. I suggest calling the other kid's parents and find out if they are traveling or not. If 2 or more can't come, then change the date.

You'll probably have a better turnout if you throw the party the weekend after thanksgiving
