its called scaling and root planning..the doctor will numb you up on one side per visit... they use special instruments and a machine to clean out all of the tarter along and below you gum lines...put you on a medicated mouth wash and have you come back within a week to do the other side...and come back in 4 to 6 weeks to do whats called perio maintanance...its basically a "cleaning" after gum treatments....very easy process...no pain
