Is it that men tend to feel more of a man when they hold the handle of everything and you holding the blade "you cant do without them but they can do without you. BUT when the shoe is on the other foot they can't cope with it because they don't expect it to be that way?

I think some of it is insecurity. Insecure men have problems with independent women and it makes them feel bigger to think that we cannot take care of ourselves. But some of it is also biological and societal values. They are hard-wired to take care of us, to be the provider and protector.

You do like the cliches, don't you?

Yes, many men are put off by independent women. But, as the saying goes, quality men are not intimidated by quality women. It's not so much the independence as it is the "in-your-face" way that some women position their self-sufficiency. Being kind and caring and sensitive to the male ego can go a long way in making an independent woman desirable.

Bitter? There may be a better choice of words and such is unlikely an accurate generalization. However, I understand the concept of male domination and control, where without it, a lot of men can show symptoms of insecurity. As such, these men may wish to avoid strong women. Nonetheless, there are other men out there as well, who enjoy and appreciate intelligent, independent, capable women, in a relationship of emotional equality. If she happens to be a bread winner or simply doesn't need the support and security from her partner, even better. Isn't it better to want to be together, rather than need to be together? If you are having problems with your man, then either get help or get out of the relationship...then find the right guy, who can bring you fun and happiness.

I love women that don't want material things from me. I wish there more of you in the world but I'd also like you to want men in your life more. Don't be afraid to enjoy having a man in your bed as long as it's not hurting anyone else.

Relationships are suppose to be a 50/50 split. It never is of course, men were raised to be the one, the man, the king of his castle, etc. When they come across a women who is an indepent spirit it bugs the heck out of them. But there are men out there who are willing to test the waters of a momen who can do with out them. Where i do not know.

Nope. I make more money than my BF and I don't need him for anything (but the obvious). We're independent of each other and support each other, and that's what you call a partnership.

You may be stuck with the wrong guys....
Or could it be that you're placing those expectations onto yourself so that you always expect guys to expect that of you?

Sometimes I feel that some men are intimidated by it. Those are the men who are immature. A real man will find your strength and independence as sexy.

Lots of men are, but I prefer a woman who wants me, doesn't need me. One who will tell me like it is for my own good, not like I want to hear it. Whether she makes more or less than I do means nothing. If she has more or less than me doesn't matter. Who she is matters to me most.

just egotistical men, i think my husband wishes i was more independent, he would love it if i made more money then him, he doesn't think it matters, why would a good man be upset by his significant others success?
