Scars occur when the body repairs itself by re-connecting broken skin. Unfortunately, the two sides don't knit together quite the way they were origionally. I have heard that there's a massage technique that can help. It's called cross-frictioning. This in itself can be somewhat painful because it's a pretty aggressive massage that consists of basically deep rubbing of the scar area in an effort to get the skin to knit together better. Since your scars sound pretty extensive and deep, I don't know how much help it would be. I'm sure it would help but it would probably take a very long time before you noticed any difference. You could try to find a good massage therapist in your area and ask about it (I don't think it's something they all do...maybe try searching the net about the technique first and see if you can come up with some names).
Ultimately, I would recommend seeing a plastic surgeon to see if they have any help available.
My dad had back surgery about 35 years ago and was in pain for about 30 years after....from the SCARS. He finally saw the right doctor and they went in and cut away some of the scar tissue. He was like a brand new man after that. I almost cried when I saw him; he looked and acted 20 years younger. So please, don't give up. Keep looking for a way to solve this so that you can feel good again. In the end, it will be worth the fighting now! Good luck

Hate to say this but NO! I have a massive scar from having a pin put in and taken out of my hip. I had this done in the early 80's. I will tell you now it is not the scar tissue. When they cut into you they sever nerve endings. If anything the tissue surrounding the scar should have no pain. However the nerve endings can be rubbing on something causing the area to be painful. Because they cut into you there are nerves that are not connected to the skin but still to the spinal cord.
I have massive pain in my knee NOT my hip. The doctor said the reason is the nerve travels down to the knee all the way to the big toe. Because the nerves are severed the pain radiates down to my big toe. As a result my whole leg throbs. I know the feeling to live with constant pain. But removal of the scar tissue just makes more. Sorry but your stuck with it. However, there are ways to manage the pain. I take Tramadol which is the strongest narcotic pain killer I can get in Japan. When I am home in Canada I get percoset and morphine from my doctor. The problem is taking these drugs for long periods can cause problems and even addiction.
MY question is this!!?? Have you gotten a second opinion about the pain? There just might be something else they have overlooked. I have seen about 8 different doctors, 4 in Canada and 4 in Japan. I have 5 of the eight who agree and three who have totally different opinions. So I went with the majority. I would recommend if you can afford it, to see as many different doctors as you can about this and weigh all the advice very carefully. But your best short term solution for now I think is pain killers. And I DO MEAN SHORT TERM please don't become dependant on the pain killers. That again can cause you more trouble. By the way I also do mediation and hypnosis to help control my pain. A great deal of pain can be self controlled. I have done it.
