I stopped reading most of the Old Testament after Leviticus. The whole book is pretty absurd.
I've read a lot of the other books in there, don't get me wrong. Helps to brush up on my knowledge of the book... as I'm told, it's in 4 out of 5 American households. Knowledge is power.
Honestly, I wish more people would read the Bible from cover to cover... there's no better way to become an atheist than by reading the Bible.

Being the sinner that I am I did 6-1/2 years in prison. I have read the Bible O.T twice and N.T. about a dozen times. It is a difficult book to read cover to cover. Pick a favorite book in the Bible and read it several time until you get to understand it. It can be very fulfilling and meaningful!!

I do it often. If I read 10 chapters a day it takes about three months to get through it. I used the New American Standard mostly because it is a literal translation and more accurate than the NIV which is easier reading but it is a paraphrase so it lacks the accuracy and has added to and taken away from the original quite a bit.

I was part of a group of 8 people that read the Bible from cover to cover. We read the NIV translation. If you are looking to read straight through, that one is the best. Other good translations for reading aloud (and yet accurate in their translations) are the ESV (English Standard Version) and the HSCB (Holman Christian Standard Bible.

I have read the Bible cover to cover but I did it as I studied it. It took me over 5 years. We are told that we should study to show our self approved unto God. All the Bible is true but all the Bible is not written to the body of Christ (the church). Most of the Bible is written to the Nation of Israel. That is why we are told to rightly divide the Word of Truth. 2 Timothy 2: 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. The Apostle Paul tells the church that if we would consider what he has written to the church that the Lord would give us understanding in all things. 2 Timothy 2: 7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.
Which Bible do I use: The King James Bible.

first, when I was younger a "child" version, with pictures and all... and i think it took me about a year, cover to cover.
Then again when I was 17, King James Version, I read it to try to reconcile myself (I had already given up Christianity and I wondered how so many could still believe it).
Reading the whold bible cover to cover only convinced me that my original chioce (to believe that Christianity is a bunch of B.S.) was the correct one for me.
christianity may be a find religion for you, and I have nothing against that, it just isnt the religion for me.

Yes. I would recommend that if you are going to do it or are interested in doing that, there are "read the bible in a year" versions. They outline how much you need to read everyday and as an added bonus they offer bible study tips and explanations. You can find them at any christian book store. Happy reading and God Bless.

I believe I have. I didn't do it with a "read the Bible in a year" plan, but have studied it. I have used mostly King James, but I like the TEV.
It can be done in a year, by just reading a couple of chapters a day.

Yup!
Read the New Revised Standard Version(NRSV) this summer. I think it took me about two months reading at least one book a day. I'm not fully sure how long, but at least two months, possibly more. My summer was a bit crazy, so some days I read lots of chapters and books, and some days I didn't get to read one at all.
But I think I'm safe in saying I did it in two months, give or take.

I read the KJV rainbow study bible. No matter how many times you can read it from cover to cover, God will show you things each time that you have yet to learn, the more you study it. Praise the Lord!!
