Sure I did! I bought him a ring and lit some candles and surprised him on our 5th year anniversary of being together. He was very surprised and touched and said yes of course.

He wanted to have his chance too ask me too. But it worked out well. We got our engagement ring made exactly how I wanted it and then he kept it till he htought the moment was right. Then he proposed to me (much in the same way I did to him LOl - stole my idea :D ) and I said yes, Thats when we said the engagement was official and told the parents and had a party etc.

We get married 30 June 2007.

You mean the tradition of PRETENDING that the man does the asking? ... I'm old as dirt and 99% of marriages only happen IF and WHEN the woman insists on it. You tell him it's time to either make a commitment or to move on and start seeing other people. Often, they panic and bolt first ... and then think it over and pop the question.

Good luck!

I'm a very traditional person so I would not. But if you really do love him and want to marry him.. Then go for it girl! Good luck and I hope he says yes! Being engaged is AMAZING! Congrats!

Are you a traditon oriented person? So you lead a tradition dictated lifestlye? Do you think he'll say yes? If you think he'll say yes, and even if you don't, but it's burning a hole in your tongue not to ask.. Than be free and ask.. It's 2006, women are more powerful and liberated than ever before, why bow down to "tradition" unless it's part of your fantasy???

Well I would make sure he has mentioned marraige in the past, or at least mentioned wanting to spend the rest of his life with you, go for it if you feel you can handle a yes which is obviously the answer you want or how would you feel if the answer was a no. Dont think I'd ever do it though. Good luck!!

oh hell no!

Im a woman and ive learned that men do not want that. no way girl!

he will ask you, thats what men do. dont strip him of that. it would be emasculating.

unless of course hes a callow-weak half man.

I wouldnt.

instead do this: Talking on your cell phone, either in the same room or car as with your man, stage this conversation(remember he can only hear you unless you have one of those loud cell phones where anyone can hear the whole conversation:
You: Hey girl! How have you been?
Friend: I just got engaged! my boyfriend asked me to marry him today!!!!!
You: OH MY GOD! YOURE GETTING MARRIED?!?!? THATS SO GREAT! I CANT BELIEVE YOURE GETTING MARRIED!! AWE!! AWE!! YOURE GETTING MARRIED! THATS SO BEAUTIFUL!! I CANT BELIEVE IT!! YOURE GETTING MARRIED!! THATS THE GREATEST THING IN THE WORLD!!

The point is to allow your boyfriend to see how excited you got over someone getting marriend, itll show him youre interested in marriage, make sure to tell your boyfriend while on the phone turn to him and say "shes getting married!!! OMG!!! smile big time, maybe even cry....

Pssh... what tradition? Isn't it tradition that girls wear dresses and not jeans? This century is pass tradition. If you want your man, go off and get him ;)

Besides, some guys are just shy and nervious like that... they don't know if you're ready for commitment or if you are. If you're worried about him not accepting, drop a few hints like... "What are your plans for the future?" something simple like that.

ahhh i would never! if you are chasing him for a ring you will be chasing him for the rest of your lives! my boyfriend already talks of marrying me..and besides it would really make him feel less of a man if you did it....it's tradition....and not the story he wants to tell....she proposed to me...but good luck
