Most of the itme, I consider myself pretty much an expert on cats, but I'm having a problem with my new kitten that I don't know what to do about.
She meows PROFUSELY when I'm trying to sleep, usually starting around 4:00AM. She doesn't have a loud meow, so it's not like the meowing itself is that bad, but she just does it so persistently that it drives me crazy.
Meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow....NONSTOP for an hour plus. Letting ehr out of the room doesn't stop her, whether I leave the door open or shut. Feeding her doens't stop her. Petting her doens't stop her. Yelling doens't stop her. Ignoring her doesn't stop her.
The only thing that stops her is me getting up - and staying up - and I just can't do that every day at 4AM!
How can I get her to stop meowing?

You mention that it's a new kitten and that "it" is a she. You don't mention her age, but this sounds like a classic case of caterwauling by a female in heat. Is it possible she has reached sexual maturity? How old is she?

Unfortunately, I recently had a similar problem. I adopted a 2 yr old retired cat from a breeder & the cat literally meowed non-stop for an entire week. And I don't mean just at night, I'm talking 24/7. I just loved this cat, but I ended up having to return her to the breeder because she was just so unhappy. I felt terrible , but I felt it was the best thing for the cat.( Also, i already had another cat & this was very stressful for her.) Anyway, I think she just missed her home. How old is your kitty? Where did she live before you got her? Do you think she could be in heat? I knew that wasn't the case w/ mine because she' already been spayed. But, I understand cats can go into heat as early as 5-6 mo old! Good luck! I definitly sympathise with what you're going through!

Yeah he may be hurt hungry or thirsty, If he is sitting by a door try letting him in if he is following you and meowing he might want attention. Try changing his food and water first. If he doesn't quit then, try opening the doors in the house. If he keeps meowing check him over. If he keeps meowing let him outside, if he doesn't want outside play a game with him. If that doesnt work clean out his litter box. If he's still meowing call the vet. Good luck.

Cats are nocturnal. Perhaps she wants to play? Often when cats meow it is a sign of comfort. Perhaps when she gets older it will stop. Its kind of like having to litterbox train a cat. It takes time to perfect it.
Perhaps you could negatively reinforce the action: ie. a squirt of a water gun usually fixes feline behavioural problems. Perhaps she was weened to young?
I've often found it helps to let a noisy kitten sleep on your bed too.
Sometimes they just want the closeness and warmth like sleeping in a pile of kittens next to their mother.

Get a hot water bottle or a couple of 20oz. pop bottles, fill it with hot water, wrap it with towel that you used the night before...dry...get a wind up alarm clock..the ticking kind...put all of this in a basket away from your bedroom..like the kitchen..and maybe a little cat food...she wants her mother....the warmth is her mother and the litter, the ticking represents the mothers heart and your smell reprsents love now.....good luck...

Before you go to bed at night have a play session. Make it to where she is really tired. Hopefully that helps her sleep longer so you can get some rest. Hope this helps.

is she fixed? could be the reason. other than that, she wants something, could be her food, her litter box is dirty or she's just a talker. Does she get along with other cats, if so try getting another, she might just be lonely. Goodluck and get some sleep!

i would have to say is sounds like she is in heat....meowing like that is common if this is the case....take her to the vet and have her checked out...it could be the maturing factor and she may need to be spayed.
