You need to call your doctor again and ask what your actual weight restriction is. If the docs office vague again SPEAK UP and ask how many pounds specifically am I allowed to lift and how long is this weight restriction for. You are the patient so if you don't get the answers you need the first time speak up and ask again. Do not let the docs office give you vague answers about anything you ask whenever you speak with them. Speak up and ask them to be specific.

doctors are only people too, they don't have crystal balls. A herniated disc will limit you by the way it feels. Suggest you learn from a physical therapist how to lift in a safe manner before you go trying to pick up your daughter or anything that weighs more than 20 pounds. In other words, squat down and use your legs to do the lifting, DO NOT bend over to pick anything up.
