This is not possible. Plus if it was possible you will run the risk of Microsoft "WGA", tool that is used to validate your key for Windows XP, saying that the key is no good. And then they may cut report you for criminal action. For one think you will not get any critical updates, or any program that Microsoft offers for free like Windows Medial Player. Because everything that is download now from Microsoft they will check three or for times with their WGA tool to validate your key.

Best you say with the XP platform that you have an I hope it is legal platform. Or you will have the same problem above.

Plus Microsoft, does not support any versions of their platforms that go back past Windows XP with SP1 service pack.

Say with the version you have. If you need to update, then you have to purchase a small item from an OEM company and then they will sell you Windows XP Pro., or Windows XP home. for about $100.00 or less.

You can't downgrade your operating system without re-installing, sorry. The only way that can be done is if you actually upgraded to Windows XP from a previous installation, and still have all the old setup files on the computer. You can, however, run the file and settings transfer wizard. This might be able to help, but I am uncertain whether you can use it in the exact way you describe or not. Link here:

Normally, this is used to take settings from an older system and move them to the newer system, so whether this will work for you I cannot say for certain.

No you can not install an older version of XP on a new version. You need to have the CD for the older version the uninstall it and then run the new version. You have not stated your problem clearly. If you are having problems just put the CD in the drive click my computer. Windows will be on the CD drive click on it windows will open just up grade you will not loose anything.

U can not reinstall old version of windows by dirrect "setup" from CD Installer.

If your computer is not have important data, or U make first the new partition (using partition magic) and move the data to the new partition, then u can select "fresh copy" from windows setup (better u using bootablle windows CD), and delete C: partition then create partition C:
After that, the old windows can be installed.
