The week before last when i took my daughter to the doctor they said she had a really bad ear infectioin they gave her antibotics..but they only last like 2 or 3 days and then we were out of them...well yesterday she started running a fever of 101.8 so i called the doctor this morning to see if i could maybe get her in and the lady wouldnt even let me talk to the doctor...she said its just something going around...I really think maybe she has another ear infection i tried telling the receptionist that...and when i got off the phone with her my daughter was digging at her ear...i asked her if she had a ear ache or her ear hurt and she said yes....so should i call the receptionist back and tell her to either put us through to the doctor or give us another prescription? it hasnt even been 30 minutes since ive called....her fever is also down today but we've been giving her childrens motrin and we missed a dose last night and it went back up to 101.4 ....

When your child seems to be running a fever of 101.8 that means that you need to take her to the emergency room because anything could happen never wait until the next day and call the doctors office. I suggest that since her fever went back up you should get your daughter to the emergency room and let them know what has been taking place and bring the medicine that was been given to you by your doctor with you to show them what you have been giving her. When your daughter is better call the doctors office and speak to your doctor and let them know the problem that occurred with the receptionist. This could have been something much More fatal and she would have told you that its probably something that is going around, she is not a medical personal she is only the receptionist and have no experience so she should not just dismiss you like that. Good Luck and I hope that your daughter will feel better soon.

Call back and request that you get a call back from the doctors Nurse. She will be able to review your daughters file and bring it to the attention of the doctor. She is also the one qualified to make an appointment with the doctor if she needs to be fit in today. If she was put on something called Zithromax, it is a 3-5 day medication but can still take several days to actually beat down the infection. If it was amox. or penic. then I would call and find out why she wasnt't on a 7-10 day dose.
Also if she has re-occuring infections you should contact the doctor and request a referral to the ENT for an evaluation.

Get her to a different doctor.
The he should have give you enough to last 10 days not just 3. That is to clear up the infection completely. You can alternate Children's Tylenol and Children's Motrin. Tylenol then 2 hours later Motrin, then 2 hours later Tylenol again.. so forth and so on so she will not get the fever again.
Get her to a different doctor and get her more antibiotics. If not taken care of it could do damage to the ear and cause a hearing loss.

I WOULD CALL BACK AND ASK TO SPEAK TO THE NURSE. IF THAT DIDN'T WORK, THEN I'D BE ON MY WAY TO THE OFFICE. AND ONCE INSIDE, I'D SEE WHO I NEEDED TO SEE.......OR THE ONLY THING "GOING AROUND" WOULD BE ME AND THAT RECEPTIONIST IN THE FLOOR!!! I CAN BE PUT OFF WHEN I'M SICK, BUT WHEN MY CHILD IS SICK, THAT'S A WHOLE DIFFERENT BALL GAME!!! AND I WOULD LET THE NURSE/DOCTOR KNOW ABOUT THE RECEPTIONIST AS WELL.
MY DOCTOR DOESN'T PRESCRIBE ANTIBIOTICS FOR EAR INFECTIONS - HE PRESCRIBES EAR DROPS AND THEN I GIVE HER MOTRIN AND TYLENOL (GIVE ONE FOR ONE DOSE AND THEN THE OTHER AT THE NEXT DOSE) FOR THE FEVER.
BEST OF LUCK AND I HOPE YOUR LITTLE GIRL GETS BETTER SOON!!!

Call back and say you want to make an appointment. Period. I am surprised that any antibotic given for a child only lasted 3 days. It is usually 10 days. This is not really adding up.

Mother may I, This is what I did, I let the receptionist know that I am calling her, on the record that if she thinks my child's life is something that's going around. That I feel it's much more serious, then that I would be standing there with my daughter and she would be seeing the Dr. today. Liability is in her hands, if something was to happen negatively to my child and she refused me service. When it comes to your child set aside intimidation! What matters is you make sure your child knows, that MOM means exactly that. Beyond yourself comes your children.

I agree, the emergency room is the way to go, ear infections are serious infections and should not be tread ed lightly. If not properly treated they can lead to other serious illnesses.

Yes call her back and let her have it. She is in no position to tell you anything about your child's health. She did not go to medical school and you are not paying her. once you see your Dr i would let him know about what is going on with his receptionist. A lot of times they are unaware of what is going on and there is a great chance that your Dr will be thankful that you were able to express your feelings to him. That is what makes a good Dr. So don't hesitate to call her back and get nasty if you have to.

I would call again and just tell her you want to come in and have it re-checked. Then I would promptly find a new Dr. Our Dr. office has a better safe then sorry policy and ALWAYS takes our concerns seriously no matter how minor.
