go to the police. They can trace it in seconds and should do so -although whether they would give it to you is another matter. Was your cat chipped? If so you have a better argument, as you can claim you cat back if you can prove it is your 'stolen property' otherwise they might not bother. Good luck, I do hope it all works out well for you

You should call and tell the animal police. Or do a search for UK, numberplates, or cat ot animals abuse in UK. I would try but I am on a school computer. If it doesn't work call the nonemermergy police number. Tell them you think someone stole your cat and you have the numberplate.

In the United States there is something called the Freedom of Information act, where you can obtain the address of a person for the purposes of serving them with a supeona or lawsuit. You can also always go to the police and file a complaint against someone and if you have their license plate you can be confident that the police will investigate on your behalf. If you obtain a copy of the police report it will contain the address of the defendant. I am not sure how it works in the UK but I would assume the police would be equally helpful. Good luck.

Thanks for asking this question - I hope there is a full and correct answer in here because I'm dying to know as well. I heard on the radio a few weeks ago SOMETHING about this kind of info being available from the DVLA for a small price - a few pounds. But there was obviously concern that they could be allowed to sell our details on. I don't know the full details 'cos I only caught a bit of the discussion.

It should be possible for the police to do it. That is how they figure out where to send nasty letters to if you do not pay your parking tickets. Whether the police will actually do it to help you is a whole different story. There won't likely be an online database though because if their was too many people would be followed home...

i recently had to go through this due to a cheque being cancelled for work i had done. i wrote to the DVLA, but had to inclose the invoice which was not paid, and all my company details. i dont think they would give you the information on a "maybe they drove off with my cat". I am still awaiting a response for the address....
