Ivory is a lovely and elegant choice!
I respect that your mother is a very important person in your life and I also respect your Hispanic heritage ... but you must keep in mind that YOU are the bride and that it's YOUR wedding.
The ivory dress seems to give you a happy, joyful feeling ... which is exactly the way you will want to feel on your wedding day.
And instead of stressing, laugh it off with this thought: It's a DRESS, for Pete's sake!! No one's life will be ruined because you chose Ivory over White. Your mother and the rest of your family and all of the other guests will survive ... life will go on for them. In fact, if you chose lipstick red, they'd still all survive ( LOL )
Your mom and other ladies in your family all had their special day ... now it's your turn to have your special day ...YOUR way.
The dress you've chosen sounds absolutely beautiful ... and it'll be even more beautiful when it's worn by you.
I wish you every possible happiness in your new life.

Ok, beyond everyone telling its your day and you can wear whatever you want, make sure the color of the ivory looks great against your skin.
I got married last december and my dress was a pale ivory. My mother loved it and helped me pick it out. Stark white didnt look good against my skin. I am hispanic too and white dresses just didnt look good on me. The ivory against my skin ended up looking wonderful with my skin tone.
Trust me, when people see you walking down the aisle in a beautiful dress they wont care if its white or ivory or cream. If your family loves you like mine does then they wont notice or care or talk behind your back because your dress is not pure white.

It will probably be okay. The only thing I would worry about is that the pure white may make the ivory dress look dingy.....I say that because I went to a wedding this weekend where the bride wore an ivory gown and a white veil. Even though they were both beautiful, it really took away from her appearance. If you are not really close to anything that is pure white, it will probably be fine.

I know what you mean, my fiance is Hispanic and is adamant about me wearing white! I really thought about a ivory gown because I am very white myself, but I feel that it is his wedding too so I don't want to make waves about it. There are plenty of other things that are more important. Yes, it is your wedding, but why argue about the color of the dress? I am sure that with your skin color, you would look very lovely in a white gown. Good luck!

First of all, don't worry about what other people say. You won't even remember that, but you will remember that your dress wasn't exactly what you wanted if you give in. Many, many brides wear ivory. Stark white actually is less flattering on most skin tones and you're right, the details are not as noticeable.

Wear what ever color dress you want. I wore ivory to my wedding and i too am hispanic. To be honest real bright white doesn't always look good on everyone. it didn't look good on me. I know it is hard but try not to worry about what other will think or say. it is your day and I bet those who would dare to judge you have probably done things in their own lives they are not proud of. Your love and marrige is pure and that is what counts not what the color of your dress is.

You can wear whatever colour you like and lots of brides don't wear white now. However, I guess if your Mum is paying she will feel she has more of a say. Could you try on the dress with her there and then she will see what you look like in it? Times have moved on now so moving away from the traditional white isn't that much of a shock for people now so you should be OK.

It's your wedding, so you wear whatever color you want to wear. Ivory is a beautiful color for a gown. And you are correct that the details and embellishments show up better on ivory than white. Modern brides can wear whatever color they feel good in. You have your heart set on this ivory gown, then I say wear it!!

you'll be fine! ivory is really considered 'winter white' anyways! so you will be in style! wedding dresses come in all colors, however anywhere from white to gold is considered normal! Most brides choose their shade of white to go best with their skin tone. I don't look good in bright white, so I went with diamond white...just slightly off white, some would call it ivory... wear what you want and what looks best on you!

Don't worry about what your guests will think, it's YOUR day and if wearing a black dress made you happy then I would say wear a black dress. It's 2006 and I think people know that the color of your dress means nothing now hispanic or not.
