I am an RN, the advantages are amazing. You have so many fields to choose from, if you do not like one specialty you can find another. The possibilities are endless. I love the care I can give to my patients. Rn's can make a horrible experience less traumatic just by a touch or kind word. Something patients ALWAYS need. Off course all of the medications and equipment are great to use but the human aspect of this profession is truly profound.
The disadvantage is burn out. You give, give, give and reach a point at times that you just have no more to give. Rn's do not have the respect we deserve. We do so much more then the public realizes. If you are making a decision, go for it, it was the best choice I have ever made and I have never regretted it. Good luck :)

Advantages- better pay, respect, health insurance, huge variates of jobs(don't just have to work in a nursing home or hospital, they can do almost any type of job)

Disadvantages- more responsibility, legal ramifications are higher than an LPN, LPNs can do IV's, you are usually the person in charge of alot of stuff...

Being an RN is one of the most rewarding jobs!!

You get the reward of helping people who are sick and or injured. Otherwise it is tiring working those hellish hours. I have an aunt that used to be a nurse. It can be rewarding if you save a life, not so if someone should die.

Good pay and a rewarding career. The downside is shift work and the system.
