This is difficult to answer as both aircraft have different roles! The JSF (F-35) will be expected to perform both land, sea and air operations whilst the Tornado GR4 performs ground attack roles only.
One would hope the the F-35 will have more capability than the aircraft it replaces as it is a new generation aeroplane. However the Tornado GR4 is still one of the most effective weapon delivery platforms out there. Who ever said that that it can't compare to the A10 and F/A18 doesnt really know what they're talking about...... Both of those are from a similar era to the Tornado and in terms of precision striking ability - the Tornado is way more capable, when they're not being shot down by US Partriot missile batteries anyway..........
The F/A18 shares the same role that the F-35 will have but again, it will be old hat compared to modern technology - if it works!

They are planes of different kinds, JSF is a fighter-bomber, so it's multirole-fighter, Tornado is a true bomber, It would be compared more properly to F-111 althow they are quite different in size ad performances.
Tornado is a very specialized aircraft, his usual mission is penetration at tree-top altitude and high speed ad strike targets with guided bombs, and soon with cruise missiles "storm shadow"
But Tornado ECR(italian and German) is at the moment the only real and effective SEAD airplane in the whole Nato Alliance.
Tornado can be considered a more "strategic" plane, while JSF can be considered more "tactical".
If the trend of asimmetric conflicts will continue I don't think that stealth capability will be so useful.
If in the future JSF will take place of Tornados it can be considered a step backward, like when Raf didn't replace Vulcans Strategic bombers when they were radiated. It's a loss of capability like for US Navy lose F-14 Tomcats for less capable F-18 Hornets.

Sorry charlie but the F-35 was built with carrier ops in mind thus it has the heavy framing necessary to do low bombing missions. The thing is though that mission is being done less and less since the gulf war when several tornado's were shot down by ground fire. The F-35 is much more stealthy so it can stay high away from ground fire without worrying so much about SAM's. The question you should be asking is the new typhoon up to the task of replacing several types of RAF planes including the tornado?

NEVER. The f-35 Joint Strike Fighter is the future of it all. it's evrything the air force has ever wanted. No crappy f-18 can compare to that or an A-10. I don't know what that guy is thinking, he must not know a whole lot about airplanes.

No.
The Tornado IDS is a ground attack variant of the PANAVIA Tornado. It's a barely passable 1970s aircraft. The F35 is a next generation aircraft that can perform the same roles. This is 1970s technology against 2006 technology, like racing a BMW2002 against a Bugatti Veyron.

You have to wonder about range - surely the GR4 is vastly more effective in terms of being actually able to get to its target ?
