He is rushing things. Your b/f is wanting your baby to have fun and risking him harm. He knows how much fun he has riding 4 wheelers and he loves his son and of course wants him to have fun, but I think he needs to calm down. I could be wrong though. Why don't you call the manufacture, or dealer of these little 4 wheelers and find out what the youngest age is that should ride one safely. Otherwise, if your gut is saying don't let him do it, then you fight with all you have for your baby, because you are all he has pulling for him in this issue.

Your son is too young for the 4-wheeler. But, I think your boyfriend is actually wanting these riding things for himself. I know alot of men who are buying their young sons things that they want to have. Grown men still love to play with toys. I see many men with those power controlled hummers and planes. Riding around in 4-wheelers with their kids wearing helmets and other protective gear.
Mothers are overprotective of their children. It is just natural. I would let my other half play with his little toys as long as I put all that protective gear on the little ones. And on the condition that he goes by my rules of safety or I will sell it. If he wants to rough ride the thing, then he does it alone with a helmet.

I think he is way too young to get a real 4 wheeler. maybe wait until he is about 7 or 8. But It would probably be okay if your boyfriend was on it with him holding him.

5 is definitely too young. a child of that age does not have good judgment and cannot react quick enough to a danger. sounds like your boyfriend wants to make your son a MAN but doesn't he realize he's only 5? if he thinks you're over proctective, tell him that's ok, i'm his mother and it seems i'm the only adult in the family. when you grow up, and be a real dad, you'll see the dangers but until then i'm putting my foot down and will NOT allow him on a 4-wheeler. DON'T buy it.

I think that he is too young too. There are a lot of accidents on 3 and 4 wheelers, and a 5 year old just doesn't have the strength, control, etc. needed to ride one. I know people do it, But I wouldn't.

Every mother would feel the same, i think that if you sit down with your partner and talk about how he is going to have to be responsible with this idea of his, point out he needs to look into safety gear where the safest place is to ride etc... Let him know that if he wants to go through with it that you are going to trust him, But in saying that also let him know that if anything goe's wrong it's going on e-bay! lol

Oh and to the person who made the comment about being married before you have a baby- you need to grow up and live in the real world!

Im sure he isnt talking about an adult sized 4-wheeler. They DO make them for his age...they don't go that fast and if he likes his power wheels one he would LOVE a 'real' one. Do some research check into exactly what he is looking to buy before you make up your mind.

I see nothing wrong with buying your son a 4wheeler..buy the protective equipment and also you can have the dealership that you buy it from fix the throttle so you can only go slow with it.

As for the chic that said you should be married before you have a child..this is 2006 not the 1800`s!

So the "boyfriend" wants to buy your son a 4 wheeler, he is not the father so his natural protective instincts are not working, your son is too young, the dangers out-weigh the fun on this wheeler. Tell your boyfriend thanks but no thanks.

this is funny because I wanted to get my son a mini bike last year but my husband was being to over protective so we bought him a hot wheels battery operated harley that tore up a few months after we got it. He will be five in feb. and I have about talked my husband into getting him a mini dirt bike or one of the mini four wheelers. When I was little I got into alot of stuff that most girls didn't and I never had a broken bone until I was 21 so all in all I think that if you are too over protective that they are going to be in more danger than they would be if you just let them do their thing. Go ahead and let him get one but tell your husband to take it slow let him ride around in the yard and in fields until he gets to where is can control it well and then let him take him to the dunes. Boys will be boys!!!
