Is it ok to use both when making a casserole?

Or will it taste funny?

good ahead, use both. I'm assuming you've only got enough onions if you mix red and white? Better to mix them than not have enough onion flavour. Only thing you need to be wary of is substituting white onions in salads.

Have a great dinner!

Sure you can use both of them. The red ones will give it a nice colour and it will not have an influence on the taste at all. the difference between red and white onions is that white onions are much stronger than the red ones. so go for it!

My girlfriend swears red onion tastes sweeter, but I can never tell any difference. It's more in the colour if you're putting onion in a salad. I dont think it'll make a difference in a casserole

It's OK to use both, but I find red onions go a pretty unappetising colour when cooked for a length of time. Also being more expensive I can't really see the point. Red onions in salads or cooked on top pizzas when you can really appreciate their sweetness and colour, now that's what I think is best, up to you though obviously!

you can use both onions for making a casserole, red is a bit strong while white is a bit sweet and usually used as cooking onions.

Its up to your taste. I personally prefer white onion (or any onion for that matter) to red onion. I do not like the peppery bitterness that red onion offers. If you like red onion and the recipe calls for 1 large onion than do a half a white and half a red...I do not see where this would be a problem.

I use red onions for every recipe that calls for white/yellows. I just like the taste better, and they cook down faster. Go ahead and mix them, you'll never notice a thing.

if the casserole has a red wine or beef stock base then white, red & shallot onions give it that bit extra 'kick' but use them in equal quantities & not too much of any of them!
Enjoy.

It's won't taste funny, but i would say only white. Red is much lighter and looses it's taste a bit when cooked for too long. But, you could pan fry them, till caramalized, then add to the stew. That should give a great taste.

I personally think it would be o.k.! It really depends on if a person likes onions and which they prefer. Cold casseroles both would diffently be fine.
