Gave up on VLC - is naught more than a clumsy little player!

Generally use WMP11 (huge improvement over earlier versions which I couldn't stand), and keep a copy of Winamp to tackle the more stubborn buggers. Why WMP11 - much work has gone in for mp3 player syncing, as well as improved meta-tagging and library organising. WMP used to be pretty p*ss-poor at handling large play-lists, but they finally seem to have gotten this sorted out also. Actually pretty happy with it these days

As for Real Player... does anyone even use that hunk of junk anymore?

VLC (video lan connect) is a great open source software to play any types of video files. VLC has a built in dvd decodere and works with many different video and audio formats including OGG, MP2, MP3, MP4, DivX, HD codecs like AES3, Raw Dirac, and even support for playing back zipped files.

When the built-in media player doesn't work, use VLC. It's my favourite media player and I highly recommend it over any other audio/video player

Unless you use a Rhapsody subscription Real Player shouldn't even be an option. Windows Media Player is native on WIndows so leave it alone as a lot of programs use it as a default player. VLC you should have anyway because it seems to play any file you throw at it including real audio & video.

I
VLC media player beacuse it does not display any AD's and
It is a free cross-platform media player
It supports a large number of multimedia formats, without the need for additional codecs
It can also be used as a streaming server, with extended features (video on demand, on the fly transcoding, ...)
It started as a student project at the French École Centrale Paris but is now a worldwide project with developers from 20 countries.

VLC!

- Plays most things you throw into it,
- it has a clean neat interface
- it is way faster (and less memory hungry) than the other 2 mentioned!

Windows Media is as good as the others and is easier to get help with. It also comes free with Microsoft and can be upgraded regularly.
