I think there seems to be a consensus that Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley were the two greatest managers in Liverpool's proud history. But Shanks was the greatest of them all as far as I'm concerned. Bill Shankly was the catalyst for the Liverpool revolution. He laid down the foundations that gave Liverpool that aura of invincibility they had through sheer bloody-minded blood and guts determination to win. He discovered a winner in Emlyn Hughes and made him captain He created the famous Anfield boot-room spirit and made Paisley's reign the success it was. Paisley learned his craft from Shanks!

Bob Paisley won 6 Championships and 3 European Cups while in charge at Liverpool. He gets my vote. How many other present or future managers of English clubs will win 3 European Cups?

Bob Paisley won all those trophies, but it was Bill Shankly who laid the groundwork for Liverpool's successes in the 80s.
