PLEASE HELP!!! i missed 4 years of school...my life at home was a nightmare...abuse..neglect..no routine...no going anywhwere...no normal life whatsoever...I don't have a clue what a normal life involves. as a consequence of being out of school for 4 years I got G grades in my GCSEs (apart from a D grade in English) after this happened....I really didn't know what to do/how to handle the situation. I stuidly sat at home doing nothing till I am now 18. i am in a state of real panic. How can I fix my education. I am 18.. would home education be an option?? If so then what organisations do I need to contact? How can I find out about home education? it would take me about 4/5 years of home tuition ....I'd be 23 by that time.....as I missed about 4/5 years of school. How could this work? I'm scared...because I just want to catch up...and catch up with where I'm meant to be in life. How could I learn stuff like cooking? what a cv is? etc.... hwo many hours and in which subjects should I take

There are adult education classes for this. Check at your local community college.

First of all, give yourself due credit. You're seeking answers, and your writing shows that you have basic skills better than some who have gone all through school. Remember that a lot of students who sit through all those years of school are not even paying that much attention to what's going in there. Home education can work for just about anything - especially with all the resources that are online and in book stores these days. It takes a lot less time to learn outside of a school classroom - a lot of time is wasted in school in the process of trying to educate so many individuals at once while dealing with various behavioral distractions.

Do keep in mind that you're still going to be 23 in five years whether you pursue filling your educational gaps or not - so you might as well relax, stop beating yourself over things that couldn't be helped (you did the best you could under the circumstances) - and try to gear yourself up to think of this as a great opportunity to take good care of yourself. Everything can work out just fine - but it will be a lot easier if you let go of the notion that you've messed something up. You're still quite young and can still do whatever you want to do if you're determined.

You can get a copy of The Teenage Liberation Handbook: How to Quit School and Get a Real Life and Education, by Grace Llewellyn, to figure out how to go about getting to where you want to be. You can find it in Amazon.com.

Here's a website that helps with GCSE concerns:

And I see that you can buy books on Amazon.com for various GCSE subjects as well a GCSE study book!

Here's a non-commercial page of links to articles about high school/college issues. even though much of it has to do with the U.S., there's a certain amount that would apply to your situation to offer ideas and encouragement:

As for cooking, all you need is a good basic introductory cookbook. You can go to a library or bookstore and browse through their selection of cookbooks - ask a clerk or librarian for help finding a good introductory one. And you would be amazed at the thousands of good recipes and articles about cooking you can find online. All you need to do is enter questions in a search engine as to what you'd like to cook - or enter searches for things like "basics of how to cook." Here's a good example:

Best wishes in your endeavors!
