Does anyone know when the military draft was started and ended?

Conscription has existed since the begining of the military, and exists today as an option. That is why as a man when you turn 18 you must register for the draft. The last draft we imposed was in Vietnam. If it was not for the draft in Vietnam, most likely people would not have turned against it.

I don't know when it started but the draft lottery came into effect in 1969. The end of the draft was in the early 70s.

In America it started when the country started and has been going on off and on since then until the early 70's. I know some countries still have it.
