must be something in the genes

The hair gene for male pattern baldness is carried by women. Men are more prone to it. Women still lose their hair, I have an aunt that has thinning hair. It's just that men are more sensitive to the bald gene and that's why more men than women are bald, despite the women carrying the gene.

It's normal for some men to go bald, it can happen to women too but it's much less frequent.

Women are also likely to suffer from baldness if they put their in ponytails or cornrows because they are pulling on the hair with excessive force.

For both men and women, testosterone is the required trigger for baldness provided that there is a genetic pre-disposition for it. Men produce much more testosterone than women so there are more bald men than women in this world.

Tostesterone (the male hormone)is predominant in men (though women also have very minute quantities of it in their bodies).

As men, Tostesterone makes our beards grow, helps our muscles develop, and gives our bodies the different shape they have to women.

Tostesterone also increases and attacks hair folllicles in later age causing hair loss. Some men experience this earlier than others. Some not at all.

The small quantity in womens bodies also increases with age and, as with men, some women experience a greater surge; hence old women who have moustaches and thinning hair.
