I'd like the idea of meeting him one day and have him be familiar to me, if he was different from us that would be weird.

You sound as if you already have you mind made up. God created us in His own image because he made us perfect just like Him. His image is spirit, our soul. It was created pure and out of great love. It did not start out with any evil or hate or deceit.
When you say God made us out of His image, you automatically think of the phsyical bodies that we all have. Well, you are completely wrong.
Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in "OUR" image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
First of all, The Father, Son and Holy Ghost were all together when they created us in thier image, which is of the spirit/ soul.
This was done on the fifth day.
Genesis 1:23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
After God rested on the Seventh day, God formed man from the dust of the earth, and made Adam.
Genesis 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
God saw that Adam needed a help mate and put Adam to sleep and took one of His ribs and made Eve, his wife.
Genesis 2:18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
Genesis 2:21-22 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
deep sleep Gen 15:12
22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
I hope this was of some help.

We are supposed to be Their crowning achievement. Can you think of a more advanced species? This is no reason to boast, it's just the way things worked out.
One could reason that we were created in Their own image, and ever since we gyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy (oh, look at what my cat just typed). As I was saying, ever since then, we have worked to destroy that image.
As for what netmouse said, that's pretty lame. It's like saying my photograph isn't really my image because I'm not flat and printed on paper. You don't see the resemblance because you aren't God.

Well, and what if I say that we are not created in his own image? nobody knows how God looks and there's for shore that God isn't old weird man in white pijama, sitting on the cloud!
There is so many beings in universe and God I'd say is boss of all universe why he should be exactly like us? I think God is God, nobody is like God!

Doubt and indecision are one of the many tools of the devil. I would tell you to read the good book but i don't know how true the Good book is so i will not. Instead i will say when thinking of these questions think not with the mind alone but with the heart as well. Some things just ring true you have to listen to yourself and find out for yourself what rings true for you.

Genesis 1:26-28
And God went on to say: “Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness, and let them have in subjection the fish of the sea and the flying creatures of the heavens and the domestic animals and all the earth and every moving animal that is moving upon the earth.” Â And God proceeded to create the man in his image, in God’s image he created him; male and female he created them. Â Further, God blessed them and God said to them: “Be fruitful and become many and fill the earth and subdue it, and have in subjection the fish of the sea and the flying creatures of the heavens and every living creature that is moving upon the earth.”

God is God the Father, God the Son (Jesus) and God the Holy Spirit.
We are body, soul, and spirit.
Three are one.

jesus never said he was the acutual son of god b/c we are all sons and daughters of god. i guess to actually answer your question u going to have to look at different religions and their point of views. in mine, hinduism, we know god created us in his own image because in our own "bible" which was said by god himself, states "i created u from me".

Fellowship with the creator is our (Human) purpose.
That is why we are created in Gods image/likeness.
Have you ever Talked with God?
We know this by faith. If you can not "believe" the presumptions in your questions then you have already answered them yourself.
