Why is this world messed up due to the world of politics? We spend £21 billion UK for a war of oil called a freedom of a people we wouldn't otherwise care about (no offense) losing life's of g8 guy's. When £21 billion in renewable fuel would supply enough energy not to need oil. Brazil produces 50% of it's energy from 1 dam! We tax big jeeps only because they got money when their influence on climate destruction is less than a chav with 10 children's daily rubbish. It is now commercially viable to use re-newneable techniques due to products on the market but politicians still use oil / coal / gas which is the main problem not 4 wheelers. Who are actually pulling the strings & does the commodities of coal / oil / gas really generate such economic benefit to the world? when we wont have an earth left & the commodities of air / water / thermal could be just as profitiable. Don't MP's not see past 5yrs when businessmen have 50yr visions? What the F.. is Blair doing with the N.Power road?

It's not quite that easy. It would cost alot more than 21 biilion pounds to change the energy suppy for an entire country, even one as small as the UK. I haven't seen any hydro electric dams around in the UK either. They want to build wind farms, but they don't want to put them off shore, too expensive, so instead they want to destroy the scenery by putting them in the country, the power from them is not that clean either. Coal is a viable alternative the UK has loads of it, but the international price is low and wages need to be high (thanks inflation and trade unions) so it is not econmically viable. The plants that run coal now can't even afford to upgrade to new tech that burns coal much much cleaner than what is being used now. Natural gas is a clean burning fuel, and very availabe, 100 trillion m3 of current reserves, but again price fluctuates with production, and when govts like Russia hold it over everyones head, it doesn't help. Solar is a nice idea but the tech is not there to make it viable, even places in Spain with sun the majority of the year, have to have backup generator to help charge batteries, because panels are expensive and are subject to damage. If the UK was on solar, what happen when it's cloudy for 2 week(which is not uncommon) or there is a hail storm, and half the panels are destroyed, are people going to go with power for a month until it's fixed, are they going to pay inflated prices to repair these facilities. There is some new tech being tested to use tidal flow to create energy, but it's a ways off. I do however agree that this whole Global warming BS is just that, BS. It's a new propaganda campaign to get votes and increase taxes. Lobby groups for power and industry are very powerful and make huge campaign contributions, so they must be satiated. Eventually we will ween off of oil but it will take a long time, and some things like planes, ships, trains, heavy machinery, large trucks, will need a fuel that produces the same amount of power that the big diesel engines produce now, and that tech is not even close to frutition.

It's not politicians that use coal/oil/gas it's the private power industry.

It's not Tony Blair that decides whether 'we' have wind power, wave power, coal power or nuclear power. It's the market and has been since Thatcher's day.

When renewables can cut it commercially, power companies will naturally choose them as the best way to make money. Get with the programme! What are you, a communist?

Nick C's answer is correct - in your enthusiasm you have not accounted for the logistics of changing systems to renewables - one big problem is energy storage, if you think of energy spikes (e.g. during world cup, intervals on soaps etc) masses of extra energy are required on tap,on demand and the system simply isn't set up to deal with anything other than current sources-if only it was as simple as switching to another source perhaps probs could be solved but there is more to it. MP's are aware the infrastructure needs to change to accomodate renewables but they can't be relied upon to do the right thing.

This is wonderful because I am a writer myself. The 3rd and 4th quote touch me the most. I can relate to them because Of my own situations in my life. the one about being positive and saying that even a stoped watch is right two times a day is like a better version of saying "look at it like the glass were half full not empty"
