My mom said that you have to excercise for 15 min or more before your body starts to use calories, etc. Is this true or is this just a myth?

Yes and no. You reach your maximum calorie burning potential after at least 15 minutes of continuous moderate exercise. However, your body is always using calories no matter what you are doing. You use calories just by being alive (breathing, digestion, circulation, etc.). This is called "basal metabolism". Activities over and above that will burn extra calories. The longer you exercise, the more calories you burn. The difficulty of the exercise you choose is also a factor. If you are sweating and working hard, you burn more than just a leisurely stroll, obviously.
To determine how many calories you are taking in, you need to read labels and measure your serving sizes. It's the only way to be sure. For foods that don't come with a label (such as fruits, veggies, etc.), you can find websites that have calorie counts.

if you work out at all ur body uses calories from the first minute to the last minute. but u also need to watch how many calories u consume. if your consuming alot then cut back (1200-1500 is a good diet consumation) go to www.calorie-count.com. it has calories for just about every food and even some restaurants. it also has a guide to how many calories u burn thru what activity u are doing (u can even burn calories by sleeping)

Now I am going to try again only to speed up the calorie loss I am going to try to wear sweat clothes to keep the body heat in and burn more. I am only going to work out 20 mins.
