Formal normally means no trainers, jeans or casual clothes.
Men generally should wear a shirt and tie and the ladies should wear something smart i.e Dress, suit, smart skirt/trousers and top.

Presumably you are a guy -
so you want to wear a black suit or tuxedo.
With it you can wear a tie if the formal event takes mostly place in the afternoon. In your case it sounds as if most of the festivities will be late afternoon and evening (unless you do not attend the reception and go home after church) then you should wear a bow tie - burgundy or black.
Vest is optional for either day or evening event.
Wear a white shirt, but not a button down collar, as these are more smart casual then formal. It can be a white shirt with normal collar or a tuxedo shirt (but use only bow tie for tuxedo shirt).
Wear polished black shoes, but not the high polished lacquered kind.
A nice extra can be a folded white handkerchief in the left breast pocket.
A new haircut is also not a bad thing for formal events.
Have fun.

Different for boys and girls. For men in the UK it's traditional to wear a morning suits, but the hosts usually specify exactly on the invite. If it just says 'formal' then that's probably a suit and tie for guys and a nice dress or something for girls. I think as it's afternoon and the celebrations will probably go on into the evening, go for a wrap dress which you can glam up with heels and jewels if you are a girl. Very this season this a clutch bag, patent / leopard print platforms and 3/4 swing jacket. have a look on EBay as they have fab designer togs at good prices. If money is less of an object, have a look on www.net-a-porter.co.uk for inspiration.

Hey there!!
If it's a December wedding, I am sure it will be indoors - try a smart suit or a well cut woollen or silk dress, preferably in a single colour. Try to avoid white or ivory as it's seen as bad form to compete with the bride :-P
If you're wearing a dress, you can carry a coat/ shrug/ cardigan in a neutral shade or in ivory white.
Do accessorize with matching shoes and a clutch or small purse. Since it will be winter, do wear hose or sheer stockings.
If you're wearing any jewellery, go for small unobtrusive gold or silver jewellery, pearls are another good option as well as diamonds or small semi precious stones - avoid large flashy pieces. If your suit is close necked then you can wear a small brooch.
As for the hair - try a simple up do - a chignon or a low bun looks very elegant. If you're leaving it open, make sure it's shining and styled properly - (pray for a no-frizz day!!)
I would suggest low-key makeup - a fresh clean look is refreshing rather than a pancaked face and dark eyes and lips!
Above all, dress warmly and for comfort as well as for style!
And make sure you have lots of fun too!!
And remember the most important style tip - KEEP SMILING!! :-)

When my boyfriends brother got married I had NO idea what to wear because I'd never been to a wedding before. It really depends on what you feel comfortable in.
I wore a nice pair of black pants with a nice top on. It was green, I don't know if it screamed 'wedding' but I felt comfortable.
Or if you feel comfortable in a dress you should go for something fun and girly, but not too over the top because it is afterall a holy occassion.
Just remember though, simple and chic and stay comfortable!

If you are male is sugest a simplesuite. If you are female (you probably are, because of the question) than you could wear fancy and glittery attire or evening robes. Do not wear anything too sexually stimulating though, since this will probably not be aproved off. I hope you enjoy your wedding, all the best.
Rick.

well, if ur a guy, you want to wear a very nice suit and a tie. because its in december you should warm warm colors like dark red, gold, dark blue, brown, deep green, etc.
the same color scheme goes for girls and dresses. dont go overboard [you dont wanna look better than the bride!!] but you do need to look elegant. again, because its in December, you probably want something warm and floor length. if not, then make sure you get warm pantyhose.
either way, make sure whatever you buy is comfortable and that you can actually MOVE in it!! lol.
hope this is helpful!!

For a man, it means a suit and tie. For a woman it means either a dressy suit, a cocktail dress or something of that nature. The timing is perfect as the fancy dresses for Christmas parties will be out in stores.

Wear a nice evening dress with heels and a wrap. Shops are great for this type of thing in the run up to Christmas.

A formal outfit - usually a suit or perhaps traditional outfit if you would like to dress to reflect your culture. I love weddings because every one dresses nice and smartly. People tend to present their best image at weddings in terms of their dressing.
