But, she sits on my friends laps when they visit and recently when i took my kitten to the vet, i brought him home and she sat on my lap for the first time ever and im sure she was doing it on purpose to annoy my younger cat who is very affectionate towards me

every cat has their own personality. seems like your older cat is more of a loner. ITs not a BAD thing. Them sitting in your lap when you brought home the kitten was their way of saying " this human is MINE" to the younger kitty.
I have 4 cats, a 1 year old female, and 2 males and a 2nd female all 17 weeks old. My older cat is a loner till i go to bed,then she loves up on me. the younger female is a lover, as is one of the boys, the other is a loner and only likes to be pet once in a while.

My mum's two cats are both very different characters. One loves being stroked, and will sit purring til the cows come home, the other is a lot more temperamental.
I've sat there for two full hours with her on my lap, watching a film and stroking her head. Next thing I know she's got bored and decides its time to claw the crap out of my hand!
Crazy animals.

My big cat is very affectionate but only towards me and my boyfriend, she doesn't trust anyone else, if she jumps off and goes away my little cat comes and lies with me. They're both really jealous, its like they see who can get mum first lol.
Cats are pretty weird animals but she might not feel comfortable with u or trust u, keep giving her lots of affection!

Take no notice our two Tabbys are like that,one will try to out do the other there so funny and there mother & daughter too.

We had a cat for eighteen years and it would never sit with me,anbody else yes,only time she did was when her time had neerly arrived.Poor oldTissy.

Hmmmm, wonder why? Does she come to you, have you got a good relationship with her? Try narrowing your eyes when she is looking at you - they like this! It means, we're friends, we're all good. Maybe that will strengthen your rapport
