like if you work in cooking and somebody asked you to take your pentacle off for health and safety purposes, but you said no, what proof would you have to say that you are a genuine follower of wicca?

(future scenario)

I just don't want this to happen to me (thats why i'm asking).

If it's for health & safety, and it's being applied across-the-board (ie, everyone else is under the same restriction), you're pretty much stuck with it. Typically, in that situation, the best you'll be able to do is wear it inside your shirt.

If there's no compelling reason (such as health & safety), and/or it's not being applied across-the-board, you shouldn't need to have any proof at all - you should just be able to state that it is your religious beliefs. Should it become an issue, it'd be time to talk to the (hypothetical) HR department.

It depends entirely upon whether people of other faiths are required to do with their religious symbols. If your place of employment requires Christians to remove their crosses and Jews to remove their Star of Davids, it's a moot point. However, if you feel you're being specifically targeted because of the ridiculous stereotype that pentacles and pentagrams are symbols of the devil, then you've got a leg to stand on. If you are being asked to remove your jewelry and no one else is, go to your Human Resources department and complain that you are being discriminated against based on your religion. You have the right to do that, and if they truly are "picking on you" they'll likely have to come up with a dress code rule that requires all jewelry, religious or otherwise, to be removed while the cooks are working.

You shouldn't need any proof. And I would watch to make sure that others were being told to remove their jewelry. If not, then file a complaint. Your State Labor Board is made for this type of thing.

As for myself, I work in accounting/bookkeeping and wear a pentacle. Everyone I work with knows what I am, and even though they are almost all Catholic, they all respect it as far as not saying anything against it. The owner of the company I work for, who is also Catholic, even went as far as to allow me to be the one to pick the Holiday cards, decorations, etc... in order to remain neutral to ALL religions. So, I guess it depends on who you are working for and how they view that type of thing.

But if they are pinpointing you out just because you are a Wiccan, then you should get in touch with the Witches Anti-Defemation League. They will tell you what you need to do. As well as help you get in touch with your State Labor Board, who handles this sort of thing.

if it was for health and safety reason as i can imagine with cooking u should have no reason to have to explain just take it off but if on an occasion you have to define what the pentacle means i like to see it as a representation of the elements earth, air.fire, water and spirit soul whatever you define as the devine so mote it be And also remember do as you will as long as it harms none

As long as everyone of any faith is required to remove jewelery for health and safety purposes, you should too. It's not about freedom of religion at that point.
Your proof would be moot. It's a safety rule.

If you genuinely follow a religion, you don't need the accessories to prove it - your pentagram will be just as connected to you in your pocket - only you won't be able to do the "Hey, how cool am I, I'm Wiccan...check out my pentacle" - I know, we all flirt with stuff like this in our teens but really, you'll still get the attention, honestly. Oh...do what thou willst, an' it hurt none :o)

I dont think you would need any proof. They would have to believe you. The same could be said for other religions like prove your a christian or catholic etc.

Proof in this context is unlikely; it would require controlled double-blind experiments to demonstrate the proposition under test. I can not even imagine what experimental results one might look for.
