All babies grow and develop at different rates. Never compare your child to another child. It is unfair to your baby and to you to do so. A general age for babies to begin walking is 1 year, but you'll find babies walking at 9 months and some don't have the get up and go until 16 months, both are perfectly fine and normal for that child. Hand/eye coordination is not developed in infancy, but begins to emerge by about 9-12 months. This requires a great deal of practice to become proficient and you will find her hand/eye coordination still a bit off well into her toddler years. Some babies never crawl and that is perfectly fine. If she is happy, healthy, growing, and learns new things, no matter how seemingly small or insignificant on a regular basis then she is doing just fine.

if this really is a concern to you, just ask her pediatrician.. and he/she will be able to make sure everything is on track.. But i wouldnt worry to much, my daughter didnt crawl till 8 months well, but then started walking before her tenth month. My son barely crawled but then walked when he was 9 months... she may surprise you and just start walking soon.. Just encourage her and help her walk all the time...im sure she is developing fine and i wouldnt be worried at all, its not like shes 2 and still crawling or anything. And hand and eye cordination takes awhile to develope..usually around 18 months they want them to be able to feed themself and put the spoon directly in their mouth.. But like i said, call her doctor, thats what they are there for...

Ten and a half months is way too young to start walking.
When dealing with premature babies, take off the weeks that she was early in expecting developmental milestones to occur. Your child's developmental age is right around 9 1/2 months because she came out early. When you take this into account, your baby is doing fine.
If you are concerned, there are free programs through your state deparment of health. Search for "early intervention program" and the name of your state. They will screen your child for free to see if she has any developmental delays.
But honestly, she sounds fine! I wouldn't worry at all.
Good luck to you!

Babies walk and develop at different rates. If she is just now crawling, you may check with Peds Doc about her muscle tone to see if that is an issue and the Doc can recommend a physical therapist who can work with muscle strength and show you how to work with her at home. As far as hand-eye coordination, that will come. There are many toys you can get for her to work with that. V-Tech makes a great line of toys that I've used myself and have seen nurses used with special needs babies and toddlers. Hope this helps.

No, she may need glasses if she isn't following visually, but she's still very young. Babies aren't to coordinated at that age. They often stick spoons in their eyes, ears and nose, while learning to feed themselves, and 10 1/2 months is early for that, so be patient, and be proud of her, she sounds normal.

dear bunny,
Its perfectly normal for your child to have not yet started walking. As a medical student when we assess the development of children in terms of their gross motor skills we give them a time-frame upto around 14 months to start walking. At 10 and a half months crawling is absolutely fine.

No. My daughter was walking at 10 1/2 months but I didn't walk until 15 months. If you are concerned discuss it with your pediatrician but she is still young for walking.

stop worrying. my baby was also born three weeks early. thats still full term. most babies dont walk til after they turn one. play with her more to devlop better and hand and eye and have the babys doctor check her vision. my son was 16 months before he walked and my childs doctor wasnt concerned at all. you have alot of time on the walking. let het play on the floor alot and allow her to explore freely. dontlet her hurt herself.controlled play always.safety first. my childs doctor told me most dont worry about walking until after age 2. you have plennty of time dont rush her to grow up it will happen too fast anyway

if you have a concern about her development, bring it up with you pediatrician. If they have no concerns, you shouldn't be concerned either. if you are still concerned... contact "Early Intervention Services." in your area and have her tested for a delay. If there is a delay... they will provide free or low cost "care" to your child. Someone will come into your home as frequently or as infrequently as they see a need. If they feel there is no need, don't worry.
