Yes. Christians are to be peaceable with all men, are to love their enemies and pray for those who persecute them. The only warfare we wage is against Satan and his demons. Also we take the same stand as the apostles did--"we must obey God as ruler, rather than men" (ACTS 5:29) If any government demand that we go to war, we must refuse.

Yes. Although I do not follow the bible, my inner faith, my heart and soul connection directly to god (rather than through words in a book) tell me that it is wrong to kill - and especially because wars have people suffering while governments sit back and enjoy the rewards of conquering and growing power, it to me is inconceivable to put my own life on the line for the corrupt, evil corporations in power.

Jesus preached and commanded to love your enemy and your neighbor...last time I checked the whole world and countries overseas are our "neighbors". The consequences of taking up arms was also shunned by Jesus when he told his disciples when being arrested at the Mount of Olives that " those who live by the sword shall die by the sword". Christians should stay neutral when it comes to government and militaristic issues, because it was God's Kingdom that Jesus was preaching about that would take care all of the world's corruption; "let your Kingdom come and let your Will take place on Earth as it is in heaven"....Faith!

Why would someone even join the armed forces in the first place if one felt that strongly about not going to war?

Let's imagine, though, that in a momentary complete lapse of judgment, I joined the armed forces. I would have to refuse to go to war because I refuse to believe that killing people is an answer.

Everyone has the right to follow their faith, but if their faith is one that stands against war, they SHOULD NOT join the military!

You know when you sign the dotted line that you are expected to carry the weapon that YOU TRAIN to use for war.

No, I would refuse to go to war because of my belief. This world of ours needs love, not war.

If it were against your faith to go to war, you shouldn't join the military. When you sign up, you know there's always a possibility of going to war.

People fight for their faiths hon

They either believe in unity of country
Unity of land
Unity of money and yes...the right to practice faith.

If people wage war on me in order to stop me from practicing my faith...I have no reason NOT to go to war.

But all else is just foolishness...

Material things are not worth warring over...faith and values are however

When I was Christian, I would have fought in Vietnam. Now, as an agnostic, I would not fight in Iraq. I can't say more without risking a false violation report even more.
