You are SO right. I have said that too many times to count. I haven't asked many, but when I do I want to be the one to choose the best answer or at least the closest to it. If you leave it to voting it's like you really didn't care about it in the first place. Of course some of the people who answer don't care either, but most of them do and I think it makes them feel really good to be acknowledged for that. At least I know I do!

People are people. Some are flaky, some follow through. Think about how many people you meet that are not even patient enough to let you finish a sentence with out cutting you off. Then you have those that analyze every word you say. This is the Internet, not a structured debate society. The only things people have to do are die and pay taxes.
It would be nice if people voted. It would be nice if people took some advice that they really need to take instead of just reading what they want to read and hearing what they want to hear. It would also be nice if people followed the 10 commandments.
I only let a question go to voting one time because I honestly could not decide the best answer. Other than that I usually pick it by the next day.

I have done both. I was learning how to use this site, and I put the question up to a vote to see how it worked. I picked that question, because the answers were all just about the same, and it was hard to pick just one.
But if I have any more questions, I will pick the answer myself. Because of an experience I had here. The man asked a question, and said things like he really wanted to know, we could say things and he would really listen, it did not matter if the answer was long, he would read it. Then he put it up to a vote. I did not bother to check his sincerity, or if he was intending to make a joke, or what. But that was so rude, almost demeaning to do that, after getting our trust, to dump our answers.
So, I will give my personal vote from now on.
You have a nice day too, Candac, and everybody else!

We probably should, but sometimes it just doesn't happen. For example, last week, I asked a question, then I had to go out of town for the weekend. I THOUGHT I'd have internet access, but I didn't, and by the time I got home 3 days later, my question was in voting.
Sometimes, though, I can't decide which answer is the best and I state that I'd rather voters make the decision. It's not always laziness on the part of the asker that a best answer doesn't get chosen.

Yes, they should. A person took the time to answer the question and may check back to see which answer was picked. I say pick one even if there is no best. Pick the best of what is there. If nothing is picked then the asker has left the answerer(s) hanging and that makes them a filthy, selfish pig.

Yes they should pick Best Answer.
This just prompted me to go pick the BAs for my two questions and it also made me read through each answer --- which is only decent after people took the time to give honest answers.
One of my first responses got a Best Answer and it felt great to have helped the Asker especially when my answer was not like most of the others.

I agree. I always take the time to pick best answer. I figure if a person takes the time and thought to answer my question, they deserve to be considered. And I usually thank the rest of the people who answered also. (Except for the rude ones).

Many people don`t. I wish they would. If I take the time to think about and answer their question they should have the courtesy to choose Best Answer personally. P.S. Love your great Scottish name.
