Robert ~
Frank is right on point as usual and everything he wrote above can not be more accurate, but let me put a twist in here Lets say Floyd fights Hatton, De La Hoya, Mosley and all these other fighters at welterweight, he continues to run his mouth about how "Great" he is, but I still wouldn't be convinced he hasn't reached Greatness yet nor will he ever, because he's fighting fighters that he's suppose to beat or would be a good match up against but lets just say Floyd fights a fighter that people think he can't beat. That most boxing fans and "Experts" say "Floyd will get knocked out" that Floyd fights a fighter where he is the underdog.
There's a fight out there that could elevate Floyd to Greatness, the Greatness that is reserved for names like Sugar Ray Robinson, Hernry Armstrong, Joe Louis and Rocky Marciano. It's a fight that if he's serious about being truly great not the "Great" that he came up with in his own head and that his followers call him. A friend of mine K. Iole who writes a boxing article in a Las Vegas online site brought this to my attention and has written a article on this subject and at first I laughed it off and put it in the back of my head, but the more I thought about it the more sense it made and if by some chance this fight was ever made and Floyd could beat him, even I would call Mayweather "Great" he'd be right up there with the boxing Gods.
How about if Mayweather were to challenge Jermaine Taylor for his title? Taylor is huge compared to the much smaller Mayweather. Taylor can crack with both hands, Taylor would be the overwhelming favorite. Everyone would say "There's no way that Floyd can win" But if Floyd did win, wouldn't he be GREAT?

I haven't seen a defining moment yet (Corrales, Gatti, Judah, Baldomir?).

I think he should fight Mosley and then De La Hoya.

I think Margarito and Paul Williams should square off and the winner should fight Mayweather.

I see a good 3 to 4 fights left in Mayweather. Sad to say, I don't classify him above or on the same podium as De La Hoya

No he isnt the greatest far from it, dont compare him with people like Sugar Ray Robinson, Muhammed Ali or Marvin Hagler who were not only great boxers but great people.
If he even wants to be regarded in the top 20 alltime he has to go out and beat the best out there not just handpick his fights against people everybody knows he is going to beat.
I would say that the options out there for him will be either De la Hoya or Mosley (hopefully either will beat him) because he will fancy his chances against them because of their age (and he only seems to fight people who are coming to the end of their careers), he wont go no where near Margarito i would guarantee that.
I would think Vernon Forrest will probably be his selection for this so called final fight, i just hope whoever it is they give the coward a right good beating.

properly regrettably Floyd Sr. isn't on my own in this mentality. around those boards, many additionally might insist this same BS. That being black a technique or the different provides some sort of great powers and make you unbeatable. undergo in concepts the time while people mentioned that no white fighter might ever dominate the heavyweight branch? properly we've been given 2 of them up there good now whacking adult men white black pink yellow and purple. Come on, end this coloration BS already. yet what are you able to truly assume from somebody like Floyd Sr.? He has no type, he got here from the gutter and could consistently take the gutter with him. a minimum of junior knows a thank you to tutor a lil little bit of sophistication, daddy Floyd has have been given 0. this may well be a guy who supplies himself way too plenty credit than he merits. Floyd gained those championship belts because of the fact of Uncle Roger no longer because of the fact of him. Oscar de la Hoya might nonetheless have been the great champion he replaced into regardless of out him. this may well be a guy who might scouse borrow the spotlight from his very own fighter and take all of the credit for himself. If hatton might have gained, he might have mentioned it replaced into all because of the fact of him. yet because of the fact he lost, it replaced into all because of the fact of hatton, and can nonetheless in a while publicly state that he remains the final coach interior the international.

Robert I - Good question. Frank and Santana good answers. I fall in line with what these two gentlemen wrote. So I will be brief. Mayweather has a weakness, he can be feinted out of position and slowed down with an accurate and aggressive body attack. Castillo proved this in their first fight. Quite frankly I think Castillo was robbed by the judges (watch that fight if you have access to it). Floyd is susceptible to the left hook to the body. Margarito has that punch. In order to call yourself or be recognized as the greatest you must be willing to take a risk and fight fighters who may be able to exploit your weaknesses (Ali was susceptible to a good in close left hook, who had that good in close left hook? Joe Frazier). The men listed in your question above have talents that could expose Floyd's weaknesses, so yes he must fight them. Santana nice analysis, saying he must fight Taylor, that never occurred to me. Thanks Robert.

I agree with Brent, watch the Castillo-Mayweather fight and you'll clearly see how Castillo whipped him. Most important, Mayweather fights like Phernell Whitaker, a chicken. They are afraid to get hit. They like to run around the ring and talk ****, but are unwilling to fight man-to-man. Someone needs to fight Mayweather like Duran fought Sugar their first fight. Get Mayweather so upset, so that he will want to fight. Spit on him, flirt with his girl, do something that will make him fight like a man. If Margarito is successful in doing this, Mayweather's pink shorts will touch the canvas.

Not right now, many people see him as being one of the best all time greats, putting him up with Tommy Hearns, Marvelous Hagler, Roberto Duran, Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis, Salvador Sanchez, Julio Cesar Chavez,,,,lets not forget those guys are up there because they have fought wars not "cllinics" in the ring and not dodging any opponets...how does Mayweather expect anyone to give him credit when he dodges great fighters and picks fighters he knows he can beat to show his skills and improve his "perfect" record (he lost that first fight against Castillo).

To be one of the best you need to fight wars in the ring to be remembered. People still talk about Hearns vs. Hagler, Hearns vs. Leonard, Duran vs. Leonard, Ali vs. Frazier, Sanchez vs. Gomez, Chavez vs. Taylor, Morales vs. Barrera...tell me Mayweather vs. ?

The best fighters are remember by their battles in the ring not by putting up "clinics". But Mayweather still has time to wise up....

to be the best, one must first fight, and beat, the best. it doesn't matter how many wins you have over second and third-tier fighters.if you have the grapes to proclaim yourself 'the greatest', you should have the grapes to get it on with those who are capable of testing that claim
