It can take a bit to get used to it. I was like you and didn't like it to start, now I love it. Your favorites should be to the far left under the gold (yellow) star. You can customize the toolbar to have in it what you want to get it like you would like to have it. But if you really want it gone. Go to start, click on control panel, then add/remove programs. Find it and remove it. Or even simplier, go to help/support and click on the one to set your computer back to a time before you downloaded it. Hope that helped.
Anything new takes time to get used to and now I love my new IE7. Also you can change the tabs that it automatically opens when it starts, to give you back your homepage you used to have. Do this by clicking on Tools, then Internet options, then put the Url (http:whatever) in the box there at the top, you can have more than one and it will open multiple tabs at startup. Play with it and have fun.

Magic!!!!! Just press the ALT button and you will see it. To make it appear permanently click View > toolbars > Menubar
To Uninstall goto control panel and click 'Show updates' found at top. Now scroll down to see the IE7 click and uninstall it. Dont worry abt the dialogboxes saying '......blah blah blah' programs were installed after installing IE. dont worry just uninstall it
